Jodi was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing Degree in 1992. Jodi was recruited to the United States to help with the nursing shortage and worked as a critical care nurse for almost ten years prior to going to law school. Jodi attended the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, working weekend nights at the hospital and attending law school during the week. She was a member of the University of Memphis Law Review, was selected for Who’s Who in American Law Schools, and graduated cum laude in 2004.. Jodi began her legal career defending doctors in medical malpractice cases, but found herself drawn to representing people who had been injured and switched sides in 2006. She has devoted her practice almost exclusively to medical malpractice for the last 10 years, litigating complex multi-million dollar cases in both circuit court and federal court. She has been named a rising star in the most recent edition of Superlawyers, and is a member of the Tennessee Association for Justice and the Tennessee Bar Association. Jodi has taught seminars and given lectures for the Memphis Bar Association locally, and at the Bench Bar Conference, teaching other lawyers and judges about medical malpractice and tort reform. I also represent departing individuals as well as employers and closely held corporate entities in business separation and dissolution matters. My experience includes involvement in healthcare provider departures and I am familiar with the unique issues involved in provider transitions.  I also advise small and midsize private corporations and businesses in various areas including pre-formation considerations, entity selection, sales and acquisitions, general contract negotiations and corporate governance.

I began my practice with Thomason Hendrix right out of law school.  At that time, I handled insurance defense, some domestic cases, and medical malpractice defense.  I stayed home for eleven years to raise my children and returned to Thomason Hendrix in 2004 in a part-time capacity.  My practice is part of a team approach in which I focus solely on defending physicians who have been sued in healthcare liability actions.  My role is to obtain and work with physician experts who will support the defense of the case, to be a liaison with our defendant physician,  to work on discovery and other motions, to work with my team in preparing the case for trial, and to provide office support while my team is in court on the case.  In 2013, Thomason Hendrix merged with Lewis King and became Lewis Thomason and I have continued my practice in this statewide firm.

Although I was born and raised in Memphis, I learned Spanish as a second language while I was in college. After obtaining my license to practice law, I have been blessed with the opportunity to represent the Hispanic community in the Memphis area. Although there are other lawyers in the Memphis area that represent the Hispanic community, I am one of a very few that actually speak Spanish. More importantly, of the lawyers that speak Spanish in the Memphis area, I am the most experienced and have the most diverse law practice.
