In 2017, I coached members of the International Moot Court team in the Phillip C. Jessup Competition in Chicago, Illinois. Our team placed as Quarterfinalists in the Midwest Regionals. While in law school, I was also a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant and worked as a law clerk for Weiss, Schmidgall & Hires, P.C.. For more than ten years of service as an attorney, I have had the opportunity and pleasure to assist friends and clients in many aspects of their lives by offering direct information and solutions. My practice begins with helping people move forward and start their own businesses as well as protect and preserve their families through estate planning. However, I also enjoy the opportunity to help those who have faced setbacks in their lives get back on their feet. I have helped homeowners save their homes from foreclosure and protected families from debt collectors without resorting to bankruptcy. In addition, I have assisted individuals who have been injured or lost money because of other people, companies, and/or banks through negotiation, mediation, trial by jury, and appeals. In the past few years, I have successfully defended a mortgage foreclosure action at trial (which was the only mortgage foreclosure trial that particular judge heard in 22 years of sitting on the bench). I have also successfully litigated dismissals of foreclosure actions before the Indiana Court of Appeals.Recently, I successfully argued the case of Johnson, et al. v. Wysocki, et al. before the Indiana Supreme Court that established a home buyer's ability to recover from sellers who do not disclose known defects in a home prior to closing. The Wysocki case overturned 132 years of law in Indiana applying the Doctrine of Caveat Emptor, or 'buyer beware,' to the purchase of most residential real estate in Indiana. In addition to my private practice, I have also had the opportunity to serve the community as a Judge Pro Tem for the County and Civil Divisions of the Superior Court of Lake County, Indiana. Beyond those opportunities, I also make time available to work with the Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation as a Head Coach of a 5U and 7U soccer team as well as volunteering as the Head Coach of all Track and Field Teams with children ranging from 4 to 10 years of age.
