While at St. Mary’s School of Law, Vanessa was the proud recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship. She was chosen for the Retired Chief Justice Alma L. Lopez Woman in Law Leadership Award as an exemplary student who maintained honor, integrity, and personal authenticity in educational pursuits, personal life, and career goals, as well as providing advocacy on behalf of low-income, battered, and abused women and children. Additionally, Vanessa interned with private firms and with a sitting State Senator while in law school. Vanessa also received a Community Service Certificate upon graduating for an exceptional number of hours devoted to bettering her community. Vanessa has continued this devotion to pro bono work to this day as a proud participant in the San Antonio Bar Association’s free legal clinics available to the San Antonio community.. After graduating from law school, Vanessa spent five years working for the largest publicly-traded bank headquartered in San Antonio. As such, Vanessa spent years in a leadership role for her organization, working with upper management on a daily basis to maintain the company’s compliance with regulatory laws, rules, and regulations. After leaving the company, Vanessa joined a San Antonio law firm and developed skills that have become critical for the practice she has to this day. She was recently selected as a member of the inaugural class of the Bexar County Women’s Bar Foundation’s LEAD Academy, and enjoyed her time as a member of Leadership San Antonio, Class 39. Vanessa has recently decided to follow in her family’s footsteps and open a practice dedicated to bettering the lives of her clients.

Mr. Deffenbaugh can offer over thirty years of legal expertise in an array of legal areas. He has worked on cases involving contracts, probate, taxation, insurance, real estate, oil and gas, business startups, and credit unions.. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from St. Mary’s University in 1975 and become a Certified Public Accountant in 1977. Mr. Deffenbaugh went on to complete his Master of Business Administration at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1982. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University Law School in 1992.. Mr. Deffenbaugh has been a small business owner for almost 40 years. In the past, he has worked in the oil and gas measurement industry. He currently works as a Certified Public Accountant and the Senior Legal Partner at Deffenbaugh and Lange, P.L.L.C.
