I was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1986, after graduating from Cumberland Law School in Birmingham, Alabama, that same year. Prior to attending law school, I received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and was licensed and worked as a Registered Nurse in Alabama, Colorado, and California. After completing law school, I began the practice of law with a small firm in Andalusia, Alabama, where I hoped to put my knowledge of medicine to use as a trial lawyer. I was extremely fortunate to work for and learn from one of the pioneers in Alabama personal injury law, Frank Tipler. During this time, my practice included cases involving medical malpractice, products liability, motor vehicle accidents, and worker’s compensation.. In 1990, I returned to Birmingham. For the next twelve years, I continued to represent personal injury clients and injured workers, but also began representing the interests of the disabled. In particular, I began representing individuals seeking Social Security disability benefits and individuals whose benefits had been denied by long-term disability insurance companies. My background in medicine was particularly well suited to these cases which almost always involve medical problems.. In January 2003, I formed the Pennington Law Firm, L.L.C., where I continue to focus on protecting the rights of the disabled, and continue to represent people with claims against long-term disability insurance companies. This includes individual claims, as well as those governed by the Employees Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”). I have been litigating claims against long-term disability carriers for over 25 years.. I also continue to represent claimants seeking disability benefits under the Social Security Act, including claims for SSI and Disability Insurance Benefits. Since 1990, I have represented several thousand Social Security disability benefit claimants. I am from a Michigan family with six children. I attended undergrad at Northwood University where I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and where I graduated MAGNA Cum Laude. I also attended law school in Lansing Michigan graduating 29/198. I worked throughout my school years.. Starting my second semester of law school, I petitioned the Michigan Supreme Court to work as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney while still attending law school. I remainder at this job throughout my law school tenure. I also worked at the Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Counsel. I wrote trial handbook for Michigan Prosecutors. This trial manual had up to date case law and rules regarding All aspects of criminal law such as search & Seizure, traffic stops, constitutional laws like 6th Amendment right to counsel, 5th Amendment-right to stay silent, 4th Amendment against illegal searc and seizure etc.. I worked as a prosecutor for six years attaining level of Senior Prosecuting Attorney, and tried o ER 120 Jury trials. (Juvenile, misdemeanor, felonies, Family Court, and paternity cases. After leaving prosecution, I took a job as an Insurance Defense firm Where I represented insurance companies when claimants disputed coverage denials for cases from auto deaths to destroyed houses, to negligence and fraud.. I remained here for three years until moving to Alabama to start a new Company.. I became VP Operations and General Coubsel for a company;3PEC. I remained there until 2013 when the company was sold. I then took a job as Corporate Counsel at a Staffing and technical recruiting company with over 30,000 employees.
