I was raised in Oxford, North Carolina by my father who is an attorney, and my mother who was a teacher. My older brother and I both attended The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (UNC-CH - go heels!) together and graduated in 2004. Following law school, I moved to Norfolk, VA and began working as a sentencing advocate for the Public Defender in Chesapeake, VA until I received word that I had passed the bar on my first attempt in October of the same year. I spent much of my first years of practice defending indigent clients in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. I was privileged to have the opportunity to help many children charged with crimes in Chesapeake's Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and even received an invitation to attend the National Juvenile Defender's Conference in Washington, D.C. in 2010.. In 2011, I took the Bar Exam in North Carolina, opening the door to expand my practice into that state and I also transferred offices to the Norfolk Office of the Public Defender to continue my work with juveniles.
