Another was a $1.4-million jury award following a one-week trial in November 2016 for a client who was injured in a 2010 parking-lot crash that resulted in two disc herniations in her cervical spine. The case took six years from the time of the accident to final resolution, which finally provided relief and satisfaction for the client, Mr. Burkavage says.. “Knowing that you can charter your clients through the murky waters of the civil justice system is a good feeling,” he says. “I’m a competitive person, but that’s not what drives me as a lawyer. What drives me is being able to help a person who’s desperately in need.”. Mr. Burkavage is active professionally with memberships in several bar organizations. After getting my master's degree in journalism, I worked in TV broadcasting for several years. I then left TV journalism to pursue a career in law..
