Cara Dames is a licensed Arizona and California* attorney. She began her legal career as an attorney at the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office in Phoenix, Arizona. She has significant experience representing clients facing felony charges in Maricopa County Superior Court proceedings, such as initial appearances, status conferences, oral arguments, motion hearings, and sentencings. While in law school, she completed multiple externships, internships, and clinics in criminal defense, trial advocacy, and family law. During the Fellowship, she directly represented indigent clients in family law cases and successfully won a contested guardianship removal trial that reunited a single mother with her child.. Bruce Blumberg is certified as a Specialist in Criminal Law by the State Bar of Arizona. Of the 18,000 licensed attorneys in Arizona, only about 750 of them have received specialist certification, and only a handful of those are certified in the area of Criminal Law. During his tenure as a defense attorney, Bruce has represented many serious felony matters, including a number of death penalty cases as a Maricopa County Court Appointed Counsel. Brian grew up in Nogales, Arizona, a city that lies along the border of the United States and Mexico. Growing up in Nogales gave Brian a unique perspective on some of the major issues our country is currently facing; including but not limited to immigration and drug trafficking. Brian’s is the son of a refugee. His mother was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba. Although she naturalized many years before her birth, Brian witnessed firsthand the traumatic effects that immigrating to a foreign country at a young age can cause. In 1961, at the age of seven, his mother immigrated to the United States without her parents during Operation Pedro Pan. Brian’s passion for helping immigrants with their immigration process comes not only from being the son of an immigrant, but also from having lived in a bordertown. Brian recognizes that even good people can succumb to the pressures and temptations of life.
