I have also completed a 40 hour mediation training with Dr. Clare Fowler.. I emphasize communication and transparency in my practice. As an attorney you can rely on me to be honest with you and willing to guide you every step of the way. I feel it is important to recognize the mental and emotional costs of your case as well as the financial costs in order to determine the best path forward. My goal is to make sure you are not entrenched in a years-long legal battle and to find a solution that works for you.. I love living and working in Oregon. I spend my off hours hiking, camping, listening to podcasts, knitting, and spending time with my husband in our garden.
I tailor my representation to meet the needs of each individual client and/or business. I have over a decade of experience helping individuals and businesses navigate complex legal situations. I started practicing law in 1992. I opened up my own practice immediately after graduating from law school and passing the bar exam. For the first two years I mostly did criminal defense. Then I started representing criminal defendants in civil matters: they had been held in jail too long, or beaten by the police. Then I began to represent people outside of the criminal law system injured in accidents -- primarily car accidents.. I liked doing that sort of work (personal injury or "PI" work). It tends to be less contentious and less stressful than some other areas, although no area of litigation is without its stressors, as conflict is inherent in the process.. When I cannot agree with the other side -- which is often, I am afraid -- I like to adhere to two concepts. The first is to disagree without being disagreeable. The second is to agree to disagree: stop trying to convince the other side that I am right and get the case before a judge or arbitrator to settle the matter.
I have lived in Oregon since 1995 but I was born and raised in Ohio. During my spare time, I enjoy camping in the great Northwest, running, biking, and reading non-fiction.
I have deep experience defending hospitals, doctors, nurses and other health professionals in cases ranging from complex obstetric and neonatal matters to more routine primary care issues. I have litigated and tried a wide variety of professional liability cases involving nearly every conceivable medical specialty over the course of my career, including a landmark case (Klutschkowski v. OMG), in which the Oregon Court of Appeals enforced the statutory damage cap against birth injury claims.. Based on a survey of my peers and the research of Thomson Reuters, I have been listed in Oregon Super Lawyers magazine, an honor limited to the top five percent of attorneys in the state. Since 2011, I also have been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America as one of Oregon's best malpractice trial attorneys.
I have been advising clients throughout the West on environmental, natural resource, and land use law since 2000. My practice is focused on helping clients to obtain the federal, state, and/or local approvals required for construction and operation of range of project types, including electric transmission and renewable generation projects. I work daily with clients, agency representatives, and consultants across a range of environmental and natural resource disciplines. My skill set includes representing clients in administrative hearings and litigation, as well as providing regulatory compliance advice.
I have a decade of experience handling Washington and Oregon family law cases and feel honored and lucky to have learned from the best of the best. I bring that wealth of knowledge to my practice but what truly sets me apart is my accessiblity to clients, attention to detail and approach to resolving cases in a peaceful manner. I give my clients straight answers and the support they need to reach negotiated settlements.. Each client and family are different and I recognize that for some, a negotiated resolution is not possible and in those instances, I provide competent and effective trial advocacy.. I also offer flexible payment options to clients so may be able to offer services to those who cannot afford high retainers. Please think of me when you know somone in need of the services I offer.. When I am not working, I enjoy doing Vinyasa yoga, gardening, backpacking and bike riding with my daughter trailing behind me.
