I got into estate planning law because it’s one of the few legal practices where everyone leaves my office happy. I genuinely enjoy getting to know my clients and being a small part of their family.. Before starting my practice, I helped the estate planning clients of Ben Knaupp and Associates and worked as a corporate lawyer for KT Contracting Co., Inc. At Thatcher Smith Law I get to work closely with families and individuals through major life transitions. I focus on helping disabled people get their benefits, whether short or long-term disability benefits, private disability insurance, medical care, accidental death and dismemberment, and other forms of disability or employee benefits.. The Washington State Rules of Professional Conduct require me to state that while I have been certified as a Social Security Disability Specialist by the National Board of Social Security Disability Advocacy, the Supreme Court of Washington does not recognize certification of specialties in the practice of law and that certification as a specialist is not a requirement to practice law in the state of Washington.

I focus my practice on representing employers and management in employment litigation. My involvement with a case spans the litigation process, and includes regularly advice on employment issues, including compliance with state and local laws and ordinances, advice regarding issues as they arise, representation before board and regulatory agencies, and when necessary, defending or litigating claims to resolution. Foremost in all of my work is an understanding of client needs, particularly the necessity to quickly understand the issues and risks at hand so as to arrive at an informed decision. I developed my legal acumen while attending Lewis and Clark Law School and clerking with the Oregon Department of Justice Trial Division, where I advised various State agencies regarding employment-related issues and litigation. After serving two years on the Lewis and Clark Law Review, I graduated with Honors in 2008.. In addition to my legal practice, I serve on the Executive Committee of the Oregon New Lawyers Division of the Oregon State Bar, and was recently honored with a Member Services Award for my work helping newer lawyers with the transition from law school to practice. I was a member and president of the J.R. Campbell Inns of Court, a national organization that teaches trial attorneys new ways to improve their craft.

I focus my practice on intellectual property litigation, opinion work, and patent prosecution relating to high-tech industries and emerging technologies. I also maintain a strong interest in criminal and Constitutional issues, and in the areas of overlap between science and the law. I have served as a scientific expert in several criminal cases, as pro bono counsel for prisoners bringing civil rights complaints against the state, and as defense counsel in disciplinary actions brought by the Oregon State Bar. In 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, I was recognized as one of Oregon’s top 2.5% of up-and-coming attorneys when Oregon Super Lawyers magazine named me to its Rising Stars list.

I focus my practice on defending employers from claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, and wage and hour violations. I have experience defending Fortune 500 employers in state and federal court. I also provide guidance to large and small employers on employee handbooks, responses to employee complaints, and compliance with state and federal employment statutes and regulations.

I focus my practice in the area of commercial litigation. I have been lead counsel on a variety of matters, including cases involving securities laws and regulations, banking and lender liability, fair credit reporting, truth-in-lending, fair debt collection, equal credit, RESPA, and unlawful trade practices.. Prior to joining Lane Powell, I worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the Oregon Department of Justice. While there, I represented the state in national and local cases involving enforcement of Oregon's Unlawful Trade Practice Act, and matters concerning civil right violations or claims of discrimination.

I firmly believe that battles in the legal arena, as well as in  life, should be wisely and selectively chosen.  I do my best to ensure that I'm giving the best advice I can, taking into account the costs of proceeding, the likelihood of success, the risks of defeat, and the realities of the mental and emotional toll that litigation can take on a person and their circle.. I fell in love with the Pacific Northwest when I came to visit for the first time and knew I wanted to grow roots here. The people are warm and friendly and we have some of the most amazing outdoor activity opportunities. I love hiking in the Columbia River Gorge, walking around Portland's eastside, and being able to drive out to the coast in about an hour. Great things happen when you live in such a great community.

I enjoy working with businesses, nonprofits and healthcare organizations to tackle employment-related legal issues.  Often these issues are not clear cut and involve a team approach, quite a bit of give and take with the client, and some good common sense problem-solving.  There is nothing that gives me greater satisfaction than taking a complex and contentious situation and having it work out to the satisfaction of both the employee and the employer, without the need for litigation.

I enjoy meeting new clients, learning how I can serve their needs, and working collectively to analyze the situation and come up with strategies to deal with complex legal issues in an effective and cost efficient manner.  I often provide a free initial consultation where, whenever possible, I estimate my fees for the legal project.. Outside of the office, my wife and I enjoy spending time with our young daughters and American Eskimo dog.

I earned my J.D. Degree from Maine Law School in 1992. Since then, I have worked  in private practice, except for the five years I was a judicial officer in the Family Division of the Maine District Court where I presided over family law cases.  I am now back in private practice and feel I have been effective in helping people deal with a variety of legal issues with more flexibility.. I have represented numerous clients in Maine's District, Superior, and Probate Courts, both as an Attorney and as a Guardian ad Litem.  I work with families to set up wills and trusts, special needs trusts, and to address their other estate planning needs.

I devote my practice to helping injured people and their familes with their personal injury or wrongful death claims. During my career I have successfully represented hundreds of victims in their claims against insurance companies or wrongdoers. Before rejoining the Rosenbaum Law Group as an attorney, I worked for six years as a paralegal at Rosenbaum Law Group. During that time I observed and recognized the powerful role lawyers can play in obtaining justice for people whose lives are turned upside down because of another person's negligence. I attended the Willamette University College of Law with the goal of becoming a lawyer who helps people, not corporations. At Willamette, I served as the Editor in Chief of the Willamette Law Review and graduated Magna Cum Laude. I Co-Chair Lane Powell's White Collar Criminal Defense, Regulatory Compliance and Special Investigations Practice group. Prior to joining Lane Powell, I was a federal prosecutor for approximately 17 years in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. As a federal prosecutor, I tried numerous criminal jury trials and conducted scores of federal grand jury investigations. I also assisted other government agencies in conducting related civil litigation and administrative proceedings. I have extensive experience in investigations involving a myriad of federal crimes, including securities fraud, corporate embezzlement, bankruptcy fraud, health care fraud, bank fraud, mail fraud, environmental crimes and money laundering offenses. As a federal prosecutor, I was selected to serve on several national task forces and working groups related to the areas of money laundering, health care fraud, bankruptcy fraud, and securities fraud.

In 2012, I became a partner at Thuemmel Uhle and Eder.. I have successfully argued before the Court of Appeals on DUII cases and received not guilty verdicts afer jury trials on misdemeanor DUII and Felony DUII trials in multiple counties across the state.. I came to Portland in 1988 to attend law school at Lewis & Clark, Northwestern School of Law after completing my undergraduate studies at Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA.  I was raised in the country on the Kitsap Peninsula and more or less consider myself a native of the Pacific Northwest.  I've always had a deep love for the Portland, Oregon community, and I am proud to call it my home.  I have raised two children in the community over the past 32 years along with several cats and dogs.  My hobbies include cycling, hiking, mountaineering, downhill skiing, rafting and pretty much anything that gets me outdoors in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.. I began my legal career as a law clerk during law school for a firm that did both insurance defense work and plaintiff's personal injury cases on behalf of individuals.  Firms of this nature are rare in today's legal community because they are almost always one or the other...not both.  I worked 20 to 30 hours a week for the law firm during law school and attended classes full time. After I graduated in the top 20% of my class from law school, I passed the bar examination on my first attempt and began working at the same firm that I worked for during law school. My mentor was a senior litigation attorney who previously worked as a law professor part time at the Nothwestern School of Law when it was a night school in downtown Portland.  He was an excellent teacher, and he taught me how to try cases to juries in the courts of Oregon.  I was handling jury trials in my first year out of law school, which is almost unheard of these days.  I also had opportunities to "second chair" cases with the senior attorney for serious injuries as well as wrongful death.  When my mentor retired, I took over his case load of plaintiff's cases, and I have been primarily practicing on my own litigating cases on exclusively behalf of individual plaintiffs for over two decades. I no longer believe in representing insurance companies because I like to help people as opposed to furthering the monetary interests of Fortune 500 corporations.  My experience representing insurers in the past during the first five years of my legal career has given me special insight into their inner workings and methods.. My passion is to help regular people navigate the legal system as an advisor and advocate. Most of my clients have never hired a lawyer before. I am very loyal to my clients and strive to deliver the best result possible.  99% of my cases are handled on a contingency basis, meaning that if nothing is recovered, nothing is owed for my time.  I like the fact that I have skin in the game along with my clients.  It's what keeps me motivated and passionate.

I am originally from Pennsylvania, but relocated to Maine after serving as an Electronics Technician in the US NAVY.  I attended the University of Southern Maine and the University of Maine School of Law.  After graduating from law school with honors, I worked as an associate at a firm in Portland, where I practiced  family law and criminal defense exclusively.. Amy’s practice continues to focus on family law, including divorce, parental rights and responsibilities, enforcement of orders, protection from abuse, protection from harassment, and post judgment custody issues.
