I began practicing family law in 1986.  For 29 years I have been an effective, thorough and respected member of the Washington Bar. I have represented many wonderful men and women, some of whom still keep in touch with me today.  I have had the privilege of appearing before some excellent King County Family Law Commissioners and King County Judges, some of whom are no longer with us, and I feel validated by the kind and complimentary comments I have received from them over the years about my approach to family law, my thoroughness, and my civility in the process.  I have expanded from being a sole practitioner to running a corporation and working with four associate attorneys, and brainstorming with them on all of their cases.

Jim Haugen is the founder of Seattle Patent Group. He has been working with patents since January 2006, and has been a registered practitioner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office since February 2007. During this time, he has done patent prosecution (writing patent applications and responding to office actions from the USPTO to obtain patents), advising clients on strategies to protect intellectual property to ensure optimal intellectual property protection within a given budget, and patent infringement analysis for litigation support. He joined the Washington State Bar Association in 2013.. Jim has over thirty years of experience in the design, implementation, and development of software, ranging from real-time tracking systems for psychology experiments to contact tracking databases for government departments and agencies. He also has over fourteen years of experience at Microsoft, in various technical, management, and legal roles.. Prior to working at Microsoft, Jim was the President of a software development and consulting company based in Halifax, Nova received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Seattle University School of Law in 2010. Home-grown in the Seattle area, Josh was raised in his dad's lawfirm. Soon enough Josh realized that he wanted nothing more than to follow in his father's footsteps. Josh and his highschool sweetheart went off to the University of Washington, both with the desire to attend law school. They both graduated the UW in three years and headed off to Seattle University to complete their legal training. With his girlfriend now his wife, Josh was pushed to his best and made easy-work of law school.. With their law degrees under their belt, Josh and his wife, Sarah, began their lives as attorneys. As was his plan from high school, Josh came to work with his dad, his friends and colleagues at MAGNUSON LOWELL, P.S. In continuing with his father's work, Josh primarily handles civil litigation, personal injury, product liability, professional negligence, and more. For me, family is incredibly important.  My parents both come from families with 11 children (I currently have 34 aunts and uncles and over 100 cousins!) and I have always loved coming from a big family.  Because of this, I have chosen to focus my law practice on two areas that deeply affect families.. The first area I practice in, is family law.  I work with clients who need help with divorce, spousal maintenance (alimony), child custody, child support, or adoption.  When parents divorce it is a pivotal time for all members of the family and having the right attorney can make all the diffrence.  I have worked with clients to quickly and efficiently dissolve their marriage and resolve child custody and support issues amicably, but I have also had to fight tooth and nail for my clients to protect them from a spouse that is over-reaching and trying to take more than their fair share.  Regardless of the issues involved, I can help.. I also work with clients to protect and preserve the wealth they have have accumulated so they can pass it on to their children and grand children or pass it on to other charitable causes that are near and dear to their heart.  While many people believe estate planning is only for the rich and famous, everyone can benefit from having a plan in place to protect their wealth, provide for custody of their children, and prepare for the only two certainties in life, death and taxes.

Cori Flanders is an attorney with Microsoft in the Federal Tax Controversy group.  She focuses her practice in the areas of federal and state tax controversy.. With over ten years of tax controversy experience, Cori Flanders has worked with compliance issues, defended legal positions inside and outside of the court room, and written legal opinions supporting various tax positions.  In working with the IRS at all levels, and the Department of Justice, she has developed strong skills in successfully defending federal tax positions and mitigating adverse tax consequences for her clients. In the spring, she teaches Tax Crimes: Investigations, Prosecutions and Penalties at the University of Washington School of Law.
