Dorothy R. Fait is a Montgomery and Frederick family law attorneyand the founding partner of Fait & DiLima, LLP. She was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court in 1977, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit in 1979. She received her J.D. from the University of Maryland in 1973.. Dorothy is a member of the Montgomery County, Frederick County, and Maryland State Bar Associations and has served on and chaired a number of committees for each. She is a Past Chair of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Family Law Section. She is also a member of the American Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, and the Women’s Bar Associations of Maryland and Montgomery County.. During her career, Dorothy has served as President of the Montgomery County Commission for Women and was a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Family Law. She is a Bencher and Past President of the Montgomery County Inns of Court where she currently serves as the Program Co-Chair. Dorothy was a Commissioner on the Maryland State Ethics Commission, from 2000 to 2005, and served as its Chair. She was also Chair of the Montgomery County Spouse Abuse Task Force for years prior to the establishment of the Family Justice Center, and is currently the Treasurer of the Montgomery County Family Justice Center Foundation. She is also a member of the Montgomery County Domestic Violence Coordinating Council.. Dorothy’s commitment to her community garnered her the Woman of Valor Award from the Greater Washington Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse in 2003, and she was named as one of Maryland’s 100 Top Women by The Daily Record in 2004 and again in 2007, and was inducted into the Circle of Excellence by the Daily Record in 2011. Dorothy has been named one of the area’s Super Lawyers in Maryland and D.C. from 2006 through 2016. She was awarded the prestigious Leadership in Law Award from the Daily Record in 2013.  In 2015, she received the Founder’s Award from the Family Justice Center of Montgomery County and was named a Top Lawyer in Family Law by Washingtonian Magazine.

Bethany G. Shechtel is a native Washingtonian and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. Bethany is a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Towson University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and the University of the District of Columbia Law School.. Bethany comes to the legal profession with a strong background in education. Bethany worked for the better half of a decade as a teacher in both Baltimore City, Maryland, and Miami-Dade County, Florida, prior to entering law school.. Capitalizing on her experience and background in education, Bethany handles cases relating to family law, domestic violence, guardianship, juvenile, and special education matters.. Before she began her legal career, Sylvia worked in documentary film and television production. Upon her graduation from Syracuse University, Sylvia moved to New York City where she worked with a number of independent producers on their documentary film projects, including Academy Award-nominated The Collector of Bedford Street. During her work on The Collector of Bedford Street, Sylvia became engaged in a number of community outreach projects related to the film, and realized her true passion was advocacy. She decided law would provide her with the best opportunity to be an advocate for those in need.. During law school, Sylvia was on the Buffalo Human Rights Law Review where she served as an Articles Editor and Case Notes Editor. Sylvia served as Vice President of Academic Affairs of her law school’s chapter of the International Law Students Association. Also during law school, Sylvia was a research assistant to a law professor conducting a study on the best practices of coordinated community response (The Duluth Model), devising strategies to intervene and end the cycle of domestic violence. Sylvia has partnered with other attorneys in Montgomery County and the State of Maryland to draft legislation. She has provided legal counseling in a collaborative effort within Montgomery County to families facing extreme financial disparities and legal status concerns while managing her own case commitments and supporting the partners in contentious family matters.. Sylvia is a member of the Family Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Bar Association of Montgomery County, the District of Columbia Bar, and the New York State Bar Association. In her free time, Sylvia enjoys exploring the area’s parks with her husband and son, and continues to show her support for independent film by volunteering at events such as Filmfest DC.
