If you would’ve told me 10 years ago that I would become a personal injury attorney, I would have laughed. But here I am – and I absolutely love my job. Why? Because I love the people, I love the practice, and I take great pride in what I do.. I decided to become a lawyer because I wanted to fight for people—individuals—in a complex legal system that too often favors those who can afford to play the game. My first legal job was in a public defenders’ office, where there was unfortunately never a short supply of clients that desperately needed my help. What I learned there was that sometimes the most empowering thing for clients was to simply have someone take the time and listen to their problems.. Navigating the legal system and fighting insurance companies can be daunting. When people are injured in an accident or by a defective product they can feel lost and unsure of what steps to take. Because I come from a rural background where lawyers are few and far between, I know the idea of talking with a lawyer can frankly be a bit intimidating—but it doesn’t have to be! As a lawyer I seek to serve as a guide for these people and their families, easing the burden of what can be the most difficult period in a person’s life.. PRACTICE. At OFT Law, I’ve had the opportunity to work on behalf of injured or sickened clients in a wide variety of personal injury cases. Not only is it interesting, but it is also extremely rewarding. I am inspired by how transformative not only the compensation that I am able to help recover, but also the closure that making a claim against a wrongdoer provides, can be in bettering the lives of clients.. The strategies involved in litigating these cases are as varied as the injuries themselves, something I find exhilarating. I am motivated by the problem solving aspect of law, unraveling the complexity of injury cases and advocating for those who need it most.. I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in psychology in 2012, and obtained my J.D. cum laude from the University of St. Thomas Law School in 2015.. While in law school, I argued before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of a man whose civil lawsuit against several probation officers alleging he was wrongfully incarcerated for several months was dismissed at the lower court. Fortunately for our client, we prevailed in that appeal—and I felt reassured and proud knowing that taking his case to the next level helped him continue in his pursuit of justice and compensation.. That drive carries forward into my work at OFT Law, because we are a law firm that takes great pride in the work we do for clients. What makes OFT different from other personal injury firms is the collaborative nature of our practice, weaving together the individual expertise of each attorney to make sure injured clients and their families get the best representation possible.
I spent twelve years in pastoral ministry before going to law school. During my time in ministry, I learned that lawyers were necessary players in solving people's problems, especially in the area of personal injury. I find it very rewarding to represent injured individuals and families through motion and appellate work.
