A graduate of Salem High School, the University of Virginia, and the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, Robyn Smith Ellis was a partner with a large law firm in downtown Roanoke, Virginia before establishing Robyn Smith Ellis PLC in the spring of 2008.. Robyn is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Virginia Women Attorneys Association.  She has served on the board of directors of the Adult Care Center of Roanoke Valley and the board of the local Alzheimer’s Association.  She is also a past officer of the Virginia State Bar, Health Law Section, Board of Directors. Further, Robyn has served as President, Vice President and Treasurer of the West Salem Elementary School PTA.. Robyn has been recognized as a "Best Lawyer" in So Salem, a publication of The Roanoke Times as well as a "Blue Ridge Best of: Retirement Living Awards" award winner in the area of Elder Law Attorney in Our Healthmagazine. A recipient of a Best Lawyers Silver Medal in the area of elder law from the Roanoker Magazine, Robyn also served as the Co-Chair of the Wills for Heroes Project through the Roanoke Bar Association which provides free wills to local first responders.  Further, she co-chaired the Barrister Book Buddies Program of the Roanoke Bar Association which coordinates attorney volunteers to read in Roanoke City schools.   She is also a recipient of the Pro-Bono Community Service Award through the Roanoke Bar Association.. She is the author of “HIPAA 101, Five Key Concepts Every Virginia Litigator Should Know which appeared in the June/July 2004 issue of The Virginia Lawyer”; and the co-author of “Must We Use a Professional Corporation or Professional Limited Liability Company for Physician Practices?” which appeared in the Virginia State Bar Health Law News in May 2001.. Robyn's interest in working with older people developed out of her strong relationship with her grandparents.  Long-time residents of Salem, Virginia, Robyn and her husband David are the parents of Rose, Henry and Jack.
