Scott’s paper entitled, “Free and Open Source Software: How Free are the Nonliteral Elements?” was selected as a local winner in the Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition on copyright law. Scott finished his final year of law school at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, where he researched the subject of Internet regulation and worked to introduce a CyberSafety Constituency within ICANN, the Internet governing body.. Prior to joining the firm, Scott spent two years performing patent research and analysis on the 3GPP wireless standard for Coltera Intellectual Property. While at Coltera, Scott worked with and trained attorneys and engineers from many of the largest wireless companies in the world on intellectual property and technical matters. He later worked in-house for Fujifilm Microdisks, where he drafted core patent applications and screened patents in the disk drive industry in preparation for a new product release.
