While in law school, Felix served as a research assistant for SMU law professor Joseph McKnight and twice interned with the Federal Public Defender for the Northern District of Texas. He also worked in the SMU Criminal Prosecution Clinic, which operates in partnership with the Dallas County Criminal District Attorney. After law school, Felix began his legal career as an associate in the civil litigation section of an East Texas law firm. During this time, he was involved in a wide variety of personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits, including defective-product lawsuits. This included cases in federal and state courts, and in venues such as Arizona, Illinois, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming. In 2006, Felix left his firm to serve as a staff attorney with the Twelfth Court of Appeals. In 2010, Felix left the Twelfth Court to resume private practice as a civil litigator.
