I am a trial attorney with a focus on disputed inheritance cases, such as trust contests and estate/probate, as well as defending trustees against claims.  My practice covers pre-litigation dispute resolution, litigation, mediation, negotiated settlement, trials and appeals.  My practice covers most of California, with an emphasis in the counties in the Bay Area, which are Alameda County, Contra Costa County, San Francisco County, Santa Clara County and San Mateo County.  I have been recognized as a California Super Lawyer each year since 2015 and nationally as a Best Lawyer since 2021 for my practice in trust and estate litigation.

Ben Riley has tried nearly 30 cases to verdict before juries, judges and arbitrators.  He specializes in trade secret, patent, and other intellectual property issues, and also in commercial litigation including trust and estate litigation in which he has recovered approximately $20 million for charitable clients.  He also has an active arbitration practice.. Ben co-led a 6-week securities class action trial, alleging $250 million in damages, and obtained a defense verdict.  The Daily Journal cited the case as the largest defense jury trial victory for the year.  He was awarded a California Lawyer of the Year award for his work leading a team of lawyers enforcing a trust for the Japanese-American women and girls of San Francisco against the YWCA.
