I am the third of four children born to Sesinando (from Burgos, Pangasinan, Philippines) and Lourdes (from Aparri, Cagayan, Philippines) of Renton, Washington and St. Anthony Parish. I attended preschool in Quezon City.  We then immigrated to the U.S. in 1974 and lived in the Rainier Valley in Seattle for several years before moving permanently to Renton.  My father worked during the day as an accountant, while my mother worked at night as an registered nurse, while the four kids tried to stay away from trouble at school. Eventually, all the children finished school with accounting degrees, but the third one couldn't cut it as an accountant.  One day, I learned that my father was a corporate lawyer in the Philippines, and that my mother was able to obtain a work visa as a nurse to come to the United States.  She filled out the work visa application on her own. So it was my destiny to become an immigration lawyer, to help others, and I love what I do.

Background: As the son of two Immigrants from Jalisco, Mexico, immigration has always been of particular interest to Carlos.  He was born and raised in southern California in a traditional Catholic family where he helped to support his family by working alongside them in his family’s gardening business. From a young age he was introduced to the concept of immigration law when he learned that many of his family members could not cross between the United States and Mexico as easily as he could. This concept triggered a lifelong interest in the United States’s immigration policies and a desire to help individuals who, like his family, seek peaceful and productive lives here in the United States. he completed his Undergraduate education at Cerritos Community College and the University of California, Irvine. He received his B.A. in Criminology, Law and Society, with a minor in Political Science in 2009. He earned his J.D. at the University of Utah in 2013.. Experience: While studying law at the University of Utah, Carlos took part in a number of unique educational experiences. He clerked for the Federal Defender’s Office for the State of Utah – Appellate Division, and the Executive Office for Immigration Review under Judges Nixon and Pead. Throughout law school Carlos also participated in the Immigration and Family law clinics, generated over 150 Hours of pro bono service.
