I spent my first several years out of college as an engineer working for the Boeing Company at Everett and Renton sites.  But I soon decided to change careers and enrolled in the evening law program at Seattle University School of Law, while still working at Boeing.  While in law school I had the opportunity to work in the Ronald E. Peterson Bankruptcy Clinic, which provided me experience in bankruptcy law.  My experience working with in law clinic with actual clients was a key factor in my decision to practice bankruptcy law full-time and assist those facing financial hardship.. After graduating from law school, I volunteered for the King County Bar Association’s Housing Justice Project where I assisted tenants facing eviction proceedings.  While this was a rewarding pro bono experience, I was more interested in bankruptcy and debt relief law.  I signed up to be a volunteer attorney for the King County Bar Association’s Seattle Debt Clinic where my primary focus is helping low-income debtors who cannot otherwise afford an attorney file for bankruptcy protection.  I continue to use my legal skills in practice and through volunteer work at the Debt Clinic to helping people obtain a financial fresh start in life.

I'm a creative patent attorney who serves biotech and hi-tech clients in the areas of patent drafting, patent prosecution, and licensing.  My experience in both of these areas allows me to serve clients developing hybrid technologies that combine biology and computer science such as bioinformatics, molecular computing, and synthetic biology. Before law school, I worked in molecular biology laboratories at the University Washington, Children’s Hospital in Seattle, and the Chemo-Sero-Therapeutic Research Institute in Japan. During law school, I interned at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Intellectual Ventures, and Nakamura & Partners in Tokyo.I am a member of the international practice group at my law firm which provides me with experience in the patent practices of many different jurisdictions including Japan, China, Korea, Europe, Canada, Australia, and India. I have worked in Japan both in legal and scientific roles and an conversant in Japanese.

I was born in Seattle, Washington. Due to my father’s employment with the United Nations, I grew up living and traveling throughout Africa and Latin America. I earned my undergraduate and graduate degree from the American University in Washington, D.C. where I studied international human rights. I earned my Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law in 2013. During law school, I worked for the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica as a law clerk, Columbia Legal Services as a farmworker advocate, and for the American Civil Liberties Union. During my free time, I enjoy photography, traveling, exploring the outdoors, fitness, cooking, and good wine. Growing up a witness to extreme poverty and civil war, I have an enormous passion for social justice and civil rights. I look forward to serving and empowering the Latino community in the Seattle area and beyond.

I was born and raised in Seattle, attending Roosevelt High School. During the summers I had a number of jobs including a ride operator ("carny") at the Seattle center and a warehouse worker at Safeway. Following high school, I left Seattle for Los Angeles where I attended UCLA as an undergraduate from where I graduated early as an economics and political science major and left to travel.  I was accepted into Boston University Law School and worked in Washington DC for two summers; the first for the Peace Corp in an administrative capacity evaluating recruiting techniques for high demand skills, and the second for the Federal Power Commission on a special home energy conservation program.  My time in Washington DC coincided with Watergate and Nixon's resignation and was quite exciting.  Following law school I returned to Seattle and after passing the bar, cut my teeth on the construction litigation surrounding the Kingdome.  After three and a half years I took leave of the practice of law and traveled for one year around the world with my wife.  I have been engaged in the active practice of law since my return.  Following my return, my wife and I raised two great kids who are now young adults.   I continue to be interested in travel and have enjoyed a number of adventures.  I enjoy many sports including skiing.  I collect wine.  I continue to enjoy the practice of law and my clients.
