I greatly enjoy and cultivate a general business and personal injury practice, with long term client relationships going back to 1979, when I relocated from New York City to Seattle (where I am a native). I purposefully maintain a small law firm practice, with an emphasis on providing excellent service, so that we can hopefully continue a mutually profitable relationship in the future.
I focus my practice on the representation of property owners whether corporations, limited liability companies, individuals or homeowners associations. I am chair of the Construction Practice Team, serve on the Williams Kastner board of directors and am chair of the Loss Prevention Committee. My recent trial success includes representation of General Metals of Tacoma, Inc in a contract dispute with its general contractor, Bean Environmental, LLC, on an environmental dredging project to remediate the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma, Washington. Following a five week jury trial in the United States District Court in the Western District of Washington, the jury awarded my client $6.37 million for damages sustained as a result of the general contractor’s failure to perform its contract obligations. The decision in General Metals of Tacoma, Inc. v. Bean Environmental, LLC was upheld by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in November, 2008.. I was named to Super Lawyers from 2006 – 2008 by Washington Law & Politics magazine, and in 2003 was named one of Seattle’s Top Lawyers in construction law by Seattle Magazine.
I focus my practice in complex commercial litigation. I represent petroleum industry clients against environmental and toxic tort claims. I regularly defend class actions, including employment and insurance related matters.
I enjoy representing individuals and businesses involved in disputes. I work with my clients so I can understand the facts and advise them of their legal rights and risks. We work together to come up with a plan that makes economic and legal sense and then put that plan in place.. In 2002 Washington Law and Politics Magazine recognized me as a "Rising Star.". I have handled cases in King, Snohomish, Pierce, Thurston, Grays Harbor and Grant County.. I recently completed a forty hour mediation skills training session and look forward to assisting parties, as a mediator, in resolving their disputes.
I enjoy assisting my clients with legal matters big or small, in the areas of real estate, municipal and commercial law, and related litigation. Working from our offices in Seattle and Port Townsend, I seek to remain available and responsive to clients' needs and their schedules. Having practiced law for 35 years, I believe that I have the experience and the judgment to devise a prompt and economical solution to almost any legal problem.

Hi, I'm Mike Gillett.. My Seattle-based law practice is devoted to fighting for your property rights and your economic rights. Under the law, you are entitled to the reasonable use of your property, and to responsibly conduct your business. I'm here when you need an advocate for your rights in a court of law or before a government agency - both state and federal.. I returned to Seattle in 1989, opening The Gillett Law Offices. For the next 11 years, most of my work was lobbying on environmental legislation and regulations. I represented both large and small businesses.. In 2000, I returned to a litigation-oriented practice, working for the McElroy Law Firm in Seattle - again, a small environmental and land use litigation firm. In 2005, I opened The Gillett Law Firm. My practice is primarily litigation in such areas as boundary disputes, tree law, environmental contamination, administrative law, and general property law. I also handle some employer issues, including litigation concerning workplace safety and industrial insurance taxes.. I was born in California in 1955, and spent most of my first 25 years there.
