I opened WA Workers' Comp Law, PLLC in 2015 after retiring from my position as an Assistant Chief Industrial Appeals Judge with the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals, the agency which hears appeals from parties aggrieved by decisions made by the Department of Labor and Industries.  I bring my 29 years of judicial experience at the Board to our boutique law firm whose sole purpose is to represent the rights of workers injured in the state of Washington.  I work with my wife, Laurel J. Anderson, a paralegal who spent over 3 years representing the Department of Labor and Industries, and then 25 years advocating on behalf of injured workers. I have been representing clients in employment and labor matters for over 30 years, including litigation.  In addition to my base of employee and union clients, I have represented several joint employee-employer trusts regulated by ERISA. I also provide proactive labor and employment counseling to employers.. I am an MIT graduate and received my law degree from New York University Law School. I began my legal career with the National Labor Relations Board, and served as an attorney in the NLRB’s Washington D.C. and Seattle, Washington, offices from 1967 to 1974. I then went into private practice. In 1981 I co-founded the law firm that has become Frank Freed Subit & Thomas.. For over 25 years I have served on the planning committee of the Pacific Coast Labor and Employment Law Conference, which annually produces a nationally recognized two day seminar for labor and employment lawyers. I grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, but I have lived in Seattle since 1989.  I graduated with honors from the University of Washington School of Law in 2000.  After a short clerkship in the Washington Court of Appeals, I joined Scott, Kinney & Mack, PLLC, and practiced there for fifteen years. In April 2016, I joined Emerald Law Group.. My primary practice areas are personal injury, primarily motor vehicle accidents, premises liability (slip-and-fall and trip-and-fall injuries), dog bites, and childhood sex abuse.  One of the things I most love about my job is getting to know all sorts of people and learning their stories.

I first became a lawyer because, as corny as it might seem, I was enthralled by watching Perry Mason when I was a young boy.  The cool and calm demeanor he exhibited in any situation, his crafty cross examination of witnesses that somehow always led to a confession, and not to mention he won all his cases.  While in law school, I volunteered at local legal clinics to help people with everyday legal issues they face, from workplace discrimination to holding a bad landlord accountable.  It was during this time that I saw what power the law held to help people, to improve people's lives, and to be a "big stick" when necessary.  This is one of the reasons I chose to represent people charged with crimes for a living, because so many of my clients are good people even if they made a mistake.  And the U.S. Constitution requires that everyone accused of a crime be entitled to a zealous defense, someone to protect their rights and challenge the government's authority when necessary.  This is why I do what I do.. As a former prosecuting attorney and Judge Pro Tem, I have the experience and knowledge needed to successfully represent those accused of crimes, whether it is assault, DUI, suspended license, theft, and all other criminal charges.  I also handle hundreds of traffic citations a year with an extremely high success rate.  I regularly attend and speak at seminars on trial advocacy, stay up to date on new developments in my field, and provide all the resources my clients need to get them through the process successfully.   But I also take pride in my client service, keeping clients updated on their cases' progress and informed of all developments.   I am also there 24 hours a day if my clients need a question answered or simply want to discuss their case.. I am a native of Tucson, Arizona who graduated from the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona in 1991 and began a DUI and criminal law practice the following year. I won my very first jury trial where I represented a client with several DUI priors who was facing considerable prison time if he was once again convicted for the offense. While any attorney with no prior trial experience would have reason to be nervous on his or her first trial, representing someone with multiple DUI convictions was a daunting,but exciting challenge. Winning the trial gave me the confidence that I could successfully represent anyone charged with DUI. I subsequently won my second DUI trial as well.
