I grew up in Rock Hill, then came to Spartanburg to go to Wofford College, where I graduated in 1996.  I graduated from law school at the University of South Carolina in 2000.. After that, I worked as a law clerk for a state circuit court judge in Barnwell, who held court mostly in Aiken, Bamberg, and Barnwell.  After a year there, I returned to the Upstate in 2001 to practice law in Easley.. In 2005, I joined this firm.  I am grateful to practice law here.  I am thankful to be part of the Spartanburg community, where my wife and I raise our four children.  We belong to First Presbyterian Church here in town, where I've served as a deacon.  Over the years, I've served Spartanburg on the boards of the local Red Cross and TOTAL Ministries, a mission funded by local churches to feed and clothe the less fortunate. Most recently, I got appointed by the governor to serve on the board for the Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center, giving me a golden opportunity to help our community reach out to those gripped by the pain and isolation of mental health challenges.. I've been honored to be an elected leader within the legal profession as a two-term member of the board of directors for the state criminal defense lawyers association and chairman of the personal injury and insurance committee of the South Carolina Bar.. For my entire legal career starting in 2001, I've worked to help people who got hurt through no fault of their own and defend people accused of crime, including DUI.  I've tried numerous cases to a jury verdict, from car accidents to residential construction to assault and battery with intent to kill, and DUIs.  I've  also tried several workers’ compensation hearings.. The best thing about being a lawyer is I get to be a voice for folks who might not otherwise have one.  I am very proud of the people I help and the causes I represent.. Any result for a prior client does not necessarily indicate similar results can be obtained for other clients, and every case must be evaluated on its unique facts and law.

I grew up in Spartanburg, and remained in Spartanburg until I graduated from Wofford College with a degree in psychology. At the suggestion of some friends, I decided to attend law school at the University of South Carolina. After finishing law school, I was given the opportunity to serve as a law clerk for Circuit Judge Kenneth G. Goode. Following the one-year clerkship, I moved back to Spartanburg and worked as an assistant solicitor under Trey Gowdy in the Seventh Judicial Circuit. I joined the private practice of Burts Turner & Rhodes in 2007. While I practice in multiple areas of law, the majority of my practice is in Family Law [divorce, custody, support], Probate [wills, trusts, and estates], Civil Litigation [contracts, construction law and real estate disputes] and Personal Injury.

For more than 35 years, I have represented real people as a result of injuries or death.  I handle a broad spectrum of personal injury claims including car and truck accidents, work related injuries, injuries from defective products, nursing home abuse, and medical malpractice.  I do not represent any insurance companies or corporations.  I like the challenge of fighting big companies for my clients.  Having tried hundreds of cases,  I am more than willing to take your case in front of a jury.  I find that representing injured people is very rewarding.  I receive thank you noted, Christmas cards, hugs, and even vegtables in the summer out of my clients gardens.  It is my goal to make a diffence in the lives of my clients.. I use the latest technology to enhance your case including "day in a life" videos, accident reconstruction experts, power point presentationa, vocational experts, and economists to establish financial loss and life care experts when needed.. I am regularly hired by other lawyers to assist in complicated or high stakes lawsuits.  I also handle class action litigation and litigation involving numerous claimants.. In addition to being to practice law in South Carolina, I licensed to practice in the Federal District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.  I have aslo appeared in other state and federal courts on complex legal matters.. I am a strong believer in the legal system, pariticularly the civil justice system and it is my observation and belief the the jury sytem is the best way of resolving disputes between our citizens.
