I was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. I attended Christ the King Grade School and Griffin High School (now Sacred Heart-Griffin). I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 with a degree in Finance and returned to Springfield to work as an investment officer for Marine Investment Management Company, a subsidiary of the original Marine Bank. There, I assisted in managing the investments of both private and public pension funds.. After working for four years, I decided to continue my education and enrolled at Southern Illinois University School of Law, where I graduated cum laude in 1992. I developed my writing skills during law school as a teaching assistant, member of the National Moot Court team, and member of editorial board of the law journal. During the summers, I interned with the law offices of Metnick, Barewin and Wise in Springfield and was hired as an associate by that firm after receiving my law degree. In 1997, I was invited to be co-founder of Gates, Wise & Schlosser, P.C., where I continue to be a committed, creative, and aggressive advocate for my clients. With the addition of a fourth partner, the practice was renamed Gates Wise Schlosser & Goebel.. Although Gates Wise Schlosser & Goebel is a general practice law firm, I specialize in representing plaintiffs in personal injury claims and defendants charged with crimes in state or federal court. In each of these areas of practice, I take pride in representing individuals against entities with virtually unlimited resources. I am proud to fight insurance companies on behalf of individuals who have been severely injured by the carelessness or misconduct of another. I am equally proud to go to battle against state or federal prosecutors on behalf of citizens accused of criminal conduct.. My wife, Tricia, and I have been married for sixteen years, and we are the proud parents of two boys.
I strive to help people through the legal process. I take the time to explain to them what is happening with their case and the effects that can have on their lives. Attorneys get the reputation of not returning phone calls or talking "down" to people. I work hard to return all phone calls within one work day (if not much sooner) and treat people as I want to be treated.. My geographic practice areas include Greene County and the surrounding counties of Christian, Stone, Taney, Lawrence, Webster, Polk, Cedar and Dade. I handle municipal court cases as well.. I graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1995 and attended Missouri State University until 2000 earning a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Political Science. While undergrad I owned and operated a successful Video Store in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.. I attended Creighton University from 2000-2003. I participated in several mock trial and moot court competitions. I won the Regional Trial Competition and competed at Nationals.. I was hired by Darrell Moore at the Greene County Prosecutors Office in 2003 upon my graduation. I left in 2006 to work for Dee Wampler and then went back to work for the Greene County Prosecutors Office for the remainder of 2006 until 2012 when I started my own law firm. While at the Greene County Prosecutors Office I prosecuted every single type of case in Missouri. From child support and traffic tickets to homicides and sex cases. I have handled thousands of cases and taken hundreds to trial.. In 2009 I was selected to be a member of Class 24 of Leadership Springfield. I was selected as the Class Representative to serve on the Board of Directors. I am currently the President of the Board of Directors of Leadership Springfield.. My Practice is mostly comprised of Criminal Defense, Family Law and Estate Planning. I have the pleasure of teaching Character Education to the Wilson’s Creek School in Battlefield, Missouri. I have served on the CASP Board of Directors, Vice-Chair of Violence Free Families and do pro bono work for Harmony House.
I started my career working on behalf of the people of Greene County because I like to help people achieve a fair and just result within our legal system. I fought for victims and sought to be fair to those I prosecuted. I will use that sense of justice to fight for your benefit so that you receive the result you deserve. When it is possible, I will encourage a fair settlement that does not unnecessarily drive up your legal costs, but when it isn't, I am prepared to take your case through trial and be a fierce advocate for your rights.

I have also handled more than 350 applications to register trademarks in the United States Patent and Trademark Office.. I served as a member of the Missouri Supreme Court Civil Rules Committees from 1989 to 2002. Neale & Newman, L.L.P., is a full-service civil practice law firm whose attorneys practice in virtually all areas of the law. I joined the firm in 1983 and became a partner in 1988.. The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements.
I no longer work in private practice and am now the Managing Attorney at the Greene County Juvenile Office.
I mediate divorces for ALL Massachusetts courts and counties. You will appreciate my flat-fee, affordable, Western Massachusetts prices. I have been mediating divorces online fulltime since March 2019 when COVID hit.. I have been admitted to the bar in Pennsylvania, California, New York, and Massachusetts. I received my BA from Brown University in 1987 and my law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1991.
I love estate planning. It's one of the only areas of the law where I know I'm helping people every single day I'm in the office (or on the road meeting clients).. Yes, I did well in law school (graduated cum laude; top 10% of my class; Member, Order of the Coif; Chief Articles Editor for Volume 40 of the Loyola Law Review) but every attorney has a list of accolades next to his or her name.. Life is about being more than an attorney. I get to spend my time trying to help others protect themselves and their families and be succeesful in all that they do. I have done this as an award-winning speaker and business coach. I have done thisas a business development consultant for The Rainmaker Institute.. Now, thankfully, I get to help my clients and their families through Wills, Trusts and Estates. I'd love to help you and your family as well.. .
I knew that I wanted to become a lawyer at a young age. I argued with my high school history teacher to persuade him to allow me to do my term paper on a constitutional law topic, which he claimed wasn't a true "history" topic. I won that battle and my paper was ultimately published in The Concord Review. Most importantly, that experience was the start of a great relationship with that teacher. He is now retired and I am long out of high school, but we still run into each other around town from time to time.. Since realizing my childhood goal 19 years ago, I've grown and changed, both as a lawyer and as a person. What I've realized is that the core of my practice - and the part I enjoy the most - is working with people to help them successfully solve problems or otherwise get through a difficult time in their lives or business. I've truly enjoyed and valued the client relationships that I've built over the years, and I look forward to continuing and expanding those relationships into the future.. I am also very involved in my community and with my two children. I served several years as President of my Church’s ladies’ guild, I served as a Board Member and Clerk of Longmeadow Baseball Association, and I was a Board Member and still am a regular member of Bon Vivants cooking club. In addition, I've coached youth baseball, basketball and soccer. I am very active in my children's schools, including serving as a room parent, field trip chaperone, lunch/recess monitor, and Editor-in-Chief for the school's annual Yearbook.. People ask me all the time - "how do you do it all?" I usually reply somewhat tongue-in-cheek, "I don't sleep very much." And although I am definitely tired most nights, I wouldn't change a thing!
I help clients with complex real estate transaction and litigation needs. A portion of my practice involves development of affordable housing for low and moderate income residents. I enjoy taking projects from dirt to occupancy and closed the first Tax Credit Assistance Program project in Massachusetts. Let's build our economy and community together!
I have provided thousands of people a FRESH START in life by filing over 2,100 Bankruptcies in the last 29 years. I am fortunate to have been able to provide this FRESH START to people with overwhelming financial problems.

We represent clients on contingency, which means we never ask our clients for any monetary contribution to their cases during the entire time that we represent them. If there is no recovery, we waive all fees and costs. We also have contacts with many medical providers who can provide medical treatment on a contingency basis also, so our clients do not have to pay anything out of pocket the entire time that they obtain medical care.
