John’s commitment to securing favorable outcomes for his clients is second to none. John has obtained more than 100 verdicts and settlements over $1million. For two consecutive years, John secured the highest verdict in the State of Missouri.
I was born and raised to represent individuals who have been needlessly injured. I mean that literally. At a young age my father would tell me about the clients he was representing. I would meet them and take pride in their admiration of my father. I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer and represent clients that needed my help. I was an athlete in high school playing both football and track. I then went to undergrad at the University of Missouri where I could enjoy my passion for Mizzou sports up close. After obtaining my degree in Business Administration I went to St. Louis University for Law School. I knew I wanted to be in court so after law school I obtained a job working at the Circuit Attorney’s Office in the City of St. Louis. It was at the Circuit Attorney’s Office that I was able to hone my trial skills while representing victims of crime. At the Circuit Attorney’s Office, I tried over 50 cases starting with simple assaults and then eventually murder cases. I presided over the Grand Jury and was head of the Bomb and Arson unit. In 2011, I was honored with the Circuit Attorney “Trial Star” for winning every jury trial I tried that year. After 4 years at the Circuit Attorney’s Office, I was offered a job at Leritz, Plunkert & Bruning. Now I represent individuals in Missouri and Illinois in all types of personal injury matters. In my short time here I have obtained a judgment for $2.5 million and settled a large class action lawsuit for a confidential amount. Super Lawyers Magazine has distinguished me a Rising Star in the field of product liability litigation. I try to give back to community when I can. I started the Downtown Neighborhood Watch Group and raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. I have been named National Multiple Sclerosis Corporate Achiever for my fund raising efforts. I love the city of St. Louis and support it whenever I can. Recently I was appointed by Mayor Francis Slay to serve on the Advisory Board for the Gateway Mall. I am married to my lovely wife Lauren and we have a beautiful young daughter Mia. I would be happy to represent you.
I represent individuals, families and small businesses. The vast majority of my practice involves personal injury and workers compensation matters. Personal Injury litigation is a broad term that is best defined as recovering damages for people when their injuries were caused by the negligence of others.. Outside of the law office, I try to stay active in community organizations, but frankly due to family and business commitments, such as my involvement with the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys to protect the rights of my clients in this State, these groups have taken a back seat in recent years. In the past, I have participated in the MATA/ Red Cross Disaster related legal Services task force (co-chair 2010) and the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts.. When not at the office, Mike enjoys spending his time playing racquet sports, fly fishing, bird hunting, hiking and skiing.
I practice in civil litigation and represent corporate clients and insurance companies in cases throughout Illinois and Missouri in both state and federal court. I frequently handle claims involving insurance defense, premises liability, personal injury, complex commercial motor vehicle accidents, products liability, wrongful death and general negligence.. I also concentrate on transportation and retail related matters. In addition, I conduct immediate response to serious accidents as part of Lashly & Baer’s Rapid Response Team, which helps to achieve early evaluation of serious accidents and ensure the preservation of evidence.. I am an active member of Transportation and Retail Practice Groups of USLAW NETWORK, Inc., which is an international organization, composed of over 180 independent, defense-based law firms. Further, I currently serve on the Defense Research Institute, Inc.’s (DRI) Trucking Committee’s Steering Committee and am Chair of Publications. I also serve as Co-Chair of the Transportation Lawyers Association’s (TLA) Membership and Recruiting Committee. I served on the Illinois State Bar Association’s Committee on Judicial Evaluations from 2012 to 2016, which reviews judicial candidates for election to all courts in Illinois.. I have an “AV Preeminent” Peer Rating™ with Martindale-Hubbell ®. In 2018, I was selected through peer recognition and professional achievement for inclusion in the Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers, as published by Super Lawyers® magazine. I was honored by Missouri Lawyers Weekly with its Up & Coming Award for 2013. I have been recognized by the Missouri Bar for my pro bono work in the community.. I have successfully tried numerous cases. My accomplishments include successful resolution of claims involving: premises liability; personal injury; trucking accidents; disputes involving the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations; cargo claims; products liability; subrogation losses; class actions for false advertising and anti-trust; and toxic torts involving asbestos, benzene, and welding fumes.. I am also a regular author on transportation and retail industry issues and am an invited speaker by many industry groups. I and my wife, Kate, have seven children.. Disclaimer: The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements. Also, neither the Missouri Supreme Court nor the Missouri Bar review or approve certifying organizations or specialist designations.
I have practiced law for over 28 years with a concentration in complex civil litigation including wrongful death, medical malpractice, and product liability. My experience includes trying numerous cases in state and federal courts in Missouri and Illinois.
