I have been a lawyer since 1976 and a partner with Rush Hannula Harkins & Kyler since 1983. I handle all types of plaintiff personal injury and wrongful death cases,and in 2007 was rated by Washington Law and Politics as one of the top 40 plaintiff personal injury lawyers in Washington State. I grew up in Tacoma and have practiced law in my hometown for over 31 years.  I have been a member of the firm of Rush, Hannula, Harkins & Kyler, LLP, since I graduated from University of Washington Law School in 1977.  Since that time, I have dedicated my law practice to representing injured persons in Western Washington. I have considerable experience in cases of medical negligence, wrongful death, brain injury, truck accidents, auto accidents, construction site accidents and swimming and diving accidents.  I have also been very active in my state and local bar associations.. I attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Tacoma, where I was a member of the swimming and water polo teams and was awarded All American honors in my junior and senior years.  I attended the University of Washington on a swimming scholarship from 1970 through 1974, and was awarded All American honors in 1971, 1972, and 1973.  From 1969 through 1972, I was ranked in the top 20 in the world in the 200-meter freestyle.  I have been married to my wife Margaret, who I met at the University of Washington, for 33 years.  We have 3 adult children, Holly, Adam and Ben.

I believe my role as an attorney is to help my clients quickly, efficiently, and effectively resolve their disputes. As part of that, I am committed to keeping my clients informed, making sure they understand the process, the options available, and the potential risks and benefits of each option. Because most people are involved in very few lawsuits during their lifetime, I make sure each client is given the necessary guidance along the way.. I firmly believes in the value of resolving matters by agreement rather than through litigation. This allows the parties to craft more creative agreements, potentially maintain an amicable relationship even after the case is resolved, and typically costs far less than litigation. On the other hand, when necessary,I am fully prepared to advocate for my clients in court to protect their interests. I have experience handling family law cases, real estate matters, contract disputes, business and employment issues, and many others. For the past 10 years,  I have helped my clients reach successful resolution in these areas, through negotiation, litigation, and appellate work. I also act as a mediator to help parties reach an agreed resolution.

I am native Washingtonian, who grew up in Seattle.  In 1994 I earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Washington, one in Political Science and the other in Speech Communication.  After a brief stint in California where I began Law School at Whittier Law School I returned to Seattle University School of Law and graduated cum laude with my Juris Doctorate in 1998.   I was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in October of 1998 and was admitted for practice into Federal Court for the Western District in 2002.. I began working with David Vail & Associates in 1997 as an intern and was hired on as an associate attorney in 1998.  In 2005 I made partner and have remained determined to perpetuate the work begun by David, represeting injured Washingtonian's and ensuring they recieve the benefits they are entitled to under the law. I specialize in L&I (Workers Compensation) cases as well as personal injury cases. I spend most of my time at the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals litigating complex pension cases and from time to time I get involved in questioning the law set forth in Title 51.

Hello, Since opening my ofice in 1992 I have focused on the aggressive defense of persons accused of crime. David K. Barrett is a Partner in the South Sound Offices of GLP Attorneys.. Dave comes from a family of lawyers and legal scholars, which served as an early inspiration for him to continue their tradition of excellence. After completing his undergraduate degree in Law & Society at the University of California, David taught school, for a short time, before beginning his legal studies at Valparaiso University School of Law. While in law school, David clerked for the Honorable Judge Julia Jent of the Porter County Superior Court in Valparaiso, Indiana.. Upon receiving his Juris Doctorate in 2002, Mr. Barrett relocated to the Pacific Northwest to begin his legal career in private practice with a mid-size Seattle law firm that was engaged primarily with personal injury, immigration, family law, and criminal defense matters. In 2008, David accepted a position as Deputy Prosecutor and Deputy Coroner for Kittitas County.. Daryl was born and raised in Southern Oregon. He graduated from the University of Oregon and received his law degree cum laude from the University of Puget Sound School of Law in 1977.. His principal areas of practice are criminal defense (felony and misdemeanor) and personal injury (representing injured clients). He is a former King County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and am admitted to practice before State and Federal Courts.. He is also a former adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at the University of Puget Sound School of Law and has been a speaker and co-chair at numerous trial lawyer seminars. He is a former President of the Tacoma/Pierce County Bar Association and a former Washington State Bar Association Governor.. He is an active member of Washington State Trial Lawyers’ Association and Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He has been an Eagle member of the WSTLA for over 20 years.. Daryl lives in Tacoma with my black lab named Gunnar.  He enjoys spending time with my family and friends.  His outside interests are traveling, snow skiing, running, bicycling and water skiing.
