Matthew A.S. Esworthy is a partner in the Firm’s litigation department. Before entering private practice, Mr. Esworthy served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Joseph F. Murphy, Jr. (Ret.), former Chief Judge of the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland. Mr. Esworthy is an active member of numerous bar associations and non-profits, including the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section; Baltimore based non-profits Civic Works, Inc. and The Clarence H. “Du” Burns Memorial Fund, Inc.; and Penn State University.

Jim is a founding Member of Timmerman, Beaulieu, Hinkle & Esworthy, LLC who has spent more than nineteen years advising individuals and businesses of all sizes on general business matters and handling all manner of complex litigation matters. Jim has also represented individuals and businesses throughout the Mid-Atlantic region in general liability, hospitality, entertainment, and insurance-related matters including, but not limited to professional liability and malpractice defense, premises liability, security, and dram shop related claims. In addition to his litigation practice, Jim has served as outside counsel advising manufacturers, employment agencies, medical practices, and other businesses on general corporate and risk management issues.

In recogintion of my active participation and leadership ability, The Baltimore County Bar Association elected me to serve on its Executive Council for 10 years, and to serve as its President in 2009. I have also served a term on the Board of Governors of the Maryland State Bar Association.. Giving back to the community rounds out my public persona. I devote time and expertise to the Greater Towson Committee which is dedicated to the revitalization and redevelopment of Towson, Md., my adopted hometown. I served as its President in 2005 and 2006.
