Tara Bonzani began working for Carter & Civitello as a lawyer in October 2015. Since that time, she has assisted Attorneys Carter and Civitello in handling workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability cases.. She was born in West Haven, Connecticut and has resided in Connecticut most of her life. Tara worked as a legal assistant and paralegal for the firm from 2003 through 2012. During her nine years at the firm, she handled all Social Security Disability cases and received her BS in Sociology from Southern Connecticut State University. Today, Tara still handles the majority of Social Security Disability cases in the firm.. In 2012, Tara left Carter & Civitello to attend law school in Washington, D.C. at the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, a public interest law school widely recognized for its legal clinic program. While attending law school, she was elected Treasurer of the Women’s Law Society and completed over 700 hours of legal work as a student attorney in the Juvenile and Special Education Law Clinic and the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic. In the summer of 2014, Tara worked as a law clerk for Attorney Stephen Shechtel of Rockville, Maryland, working on family and civil matters. She graduated Cum Laude in May 2015 and was sworn into the Connecticut Bar on November 2, 2015.. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and returned there to study law after moving to New Jersey. After graduating from Brooklyn Law School I was admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York. I practice immigration law in all 50 states and Family and Divorce Law in the states of New York and New Jersey. My clientele comprises of people from all walks of life. I handle each case differently because I understand that there is no such thing as identical cases. I have always enjoyed the challenges of math and other technical training.  That love of precision has directed me towards obtaining a Masters of Law (LLM) in Tax with a focus in Estate Planning from the University of Alabama.  This specialized training has helped me to catch major mistakes that many attorneys who dabble in Estate Planning are drafting into the Trust documents that they are providing to their clients.  Often, the attorney themselves is unaware of the errors that they are drafting.. My love of advanced training has also lead me to obtain certification in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests from the NHTSA, which is the DUI training program that police officers receive at the police academies.  After learning the "inside secrets" to DUI investigations and arrests, I followed up my DUI training to become accredited as an Instructor for Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

Though I tried to find other lawyers, my searches were futile.. I am an immigrant from India who became a US citizen a long time ago. My father, grandfathers, and great grandfathers were farmers owning huge parcels of farmland in the Indian State of Tamil Nadu, and accordingly, I studied Agriculture all through PhD and became an Assistant Professor at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, India. Later I pursued computer programming in the United States - MS in Information Systems and worked in Siebel CRM at Accenture and SAP FICO at the Customs and Border Protection. Later, I switched to Federal Govt employee status and worked as an Inspector at the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at the Dept of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, D.C. My team did audits of the detention centers in Texas. As a DHS OIG inspector, I was also trained in criminal investigations by NCIS' FLETA at Glynco, Georgia.. My first entry in the United States was as a graduate research fellow with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, D.C. DEI is a gift and IFPRI is a non-profit institute gifting diverse opportunities to the international PhD students (like me) around the World. I started my career as an Agricultural Economist (India), as a teaching Professor (TNAU), a graduate research fellow (IFPRI) and a DAAD fellow (JLU, PhD) in Germany. Later after publishing a book and marriage, a new married last name and a career in computer coding, and a beautiful daughter, I pursued law school. I am a married father of 2 young children and love to be active outside the office.  I belong to a Crossfit Gym(Box), enjoy endruance sports and proudly beat Amani Toomer's time in the 2010 NYC Marathon!  I am also a big golfer and play in recreational sports leagues when the opportunity arises.  I enjoy competition and understand how important it is to be able to stay active without chronic pain.  This helps me relate to my clients who are often no longer so fortunate.
