One of the things that Andrew J. Burkavage loves about his work as a trial lawyer is the intellectual challenge posed by every case.. “Every case is different and requires thought, significant preparation, and an attention to detail to make sure you’re doing what’s best for your client,” he says. “The intellectual challenge is picking your way through the case to maximize the value of the case for the client. But there’s no template for how to march your way through a case; they’re all different.”. A Pennsylvania native, Mr. Burkavage first came to the Midwest to pursue a bachelor’s degree in political science and international peace studies at the University of Notre Dame. After graduation in 2006, he moved to Washington, D.C. for three years, working most of that period for an architecture and engineering firm where he decided to become a lawyer.. That decision led to his second move to the Midwest when he enrolled at Loyola University’s Chicago School of Law, where he became an associate editor of the school’s International Law Review. He also studied abroad in China, received an International Law Certificate, and made the Dean’s List.. By the time he was a third-year law student, Mr. Burkavage knew that he wanted to be the kind of lawyer who represented individuals in need. After receiving his J.D. in 2012, he joined Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., and began to pursue that professional goal. His practice now focuses on personal-injury cases, but he also handles product-liability cases and assists in medical-malpractice cases.. Mr. Burkavage has played integral roles as a member of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C., legal teams that have produced noteworthy seven-figure results for clients.. One of them was a $4.5-million resolution of a case that was settled on the eve of trial on behalf of a young man who was severely injured after he fell to the ground from a second-floor apartment balcony after a railing gave way when he leaned against it. The settlement amount was the largest in Illinois history for a porch collapse.. Another was a $1.4-million jury award following a one-week trial in November 2016 for a client who was injured in a 2010 parking-lot crash that resulted in two disc herniations in her cervical spine. The case took six years from the time of the accident to final resolution, which finally provided relief and satisfaction for the client, Mr. Burkavage says.. “Knowing that you can charter your clients through the murky waters of the civil justice system is a good feeling,” he says. “I’m a competitive person, but that’s not what drives me as a lawyer. What drives me is being able to help a person who’s desperately in need.”. Mr. Burkavage is active professionally with memberships in several bar organizations. He has been named a Rising Star by Illinois SuperLawyers every year since 2016 and has also been recognized as an Emerging Lawyer by Law Bulletin Media.. His primary personal interests include golf and cooking.
My name is Purna Krishnamoorthy. I attended law school at Western Michigan University, Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills, Michigan where I obtained my Juris Doctor. Prior to law school I attended Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where I obtained my bachelors degree, I majored in Spanish and minored in Philosophy.. During my undergraduate years I began to develop my legal interests early on. In 2005, I was chosen for a prestigious internship under the then, Chief Magistrate Judge of Detroit's 36th District Court. Here began my first courtroom experiences that would inevitably mold me into someone very passionate about safeguarding the rights of others. During this time I also learned the importance of seeking out the proper mentors in the field of law. It was because of the many rolemodels that I was fortunate enough to meet, both Judges and attorneys, that I decided to go to law school.. While in law school my interests expanded further. I gained experiences through various internships in the areas of landlord tenant law, public benefits, criminal law, family law, contract law, immigration law and juvenile adjudication, amongst others.. I am now a managing attorney of the law firm Krishnamoorthy & Associates. We now offer our passion-driven legal services to the Metro-Detroit area. Our firm strives to provide our clients with the best legal counsel available, working around the clock to ensure that our client's needs are met, and hoping that their expectations are exceeded. My name is Catherine Cornell, and I am an attorney who works to get veterans and their families the benefits they deserve. I became interested in helping veterans with disabilities in college during an internship at CNN in Washington, DC when I researched a story about homeless veterans. After getting my master's degree in journalism, I worked in TV broadcasting for several years. I then left TV journalism to pursue a career in law.. After law school I worked as a litigator at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago (now Legal Aid Chicago) for more than five years, helping some of Chicago's most impoverished residents with a variety of legal matters. After a short stint as one of the editors of the journal generated by the Sargent Shriver National Center on Poverty Law, I worked at a law firm where I got my start handling veterans compensation claims.. Seeing the frustration experienced by so many veterans and their family members trying to navigate the complicated VA system, I decided to establish my own law practice that focuses only on VA benefits. I handle cases at all levels of appeal, from the regional office level up to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. Additionally, my father served honorably in the U.S. Air Force.. In addition to owning my own law practice, I serve on the board of the Veterans Legal Aid Society. I am also a sustaining member of the National Organization of Veterans' Advocates.. When I am not working on behalf of veterans and their families I love to bike, spend time with my family, read, hike, bake (I make a mean chocolate chip cookie) and play with our rescue dog, Rosie.
Melissa S. Fish earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana in 2006 and in 2007 she started the study of law at John Marshall Law School not at all certain what direction those studies might take her. In her second year of law school, however, Melissa took a Family Law Course as an elective and the uncertainty was over. Melissa aced the class and earned the 2009 Family Law CALI award given to that student who does the best in the class. Melissa, thereafter, pursued her interest by working with the Cook County Office of Public Guardian where she represented and fought for abused and neglected children. She also worked at the Domestic Violence Clinic at 555 W. Harrison where she encountered the type of high conflict situations that persuade many attorneys to pursue other areas of practice. She further honed her courtroom skills by working for the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office where, as a 711 licensee, she appeared in Court regularly. In 2010 Melissa graduated from John Marshall Law School.. After starting her family law career with a small family law firm in the northern suburbs, in 2011 Melissa was hired by the Divorce and Family Law Offices of Wakenight & Associates, P.C. in Oak Park. Just as she demonstrated in that first family law class Melissa immediately took to her new position and responsibilities with a flourish. She has excelled in her representation of her divorce and family law clients in and out of the courtroom to quickly establish herself as the top Associate Attorney in the Oak Park Office. She provides her clients with the counsel and communications they require, takes command of the legal issues in the case andpresents the Court with the concise exact analysis and evidence that the Court expects from an attorney such as Melissa, who has devoted her career to the practice of divorce and family law.

James T. Keleher focuses his practice solely in family law. James began his employment with Conniff Law Offices as an undergrad, then as a law clerk, and, upon graduation from John Marshall Law School, as an associate attorney, and is now a Partner at the firm. James is well respected amongst his peers as a skilled practitioner who is honest and forthright about his client’s goals and objectives. James has a unique combination of knowledge and interpersonal skills that make him an exceptional family law attorney.. James strongly believes that family law issues are best resolved by the parties, particularly when there are children’s issues in dispute. As a father of three young children, James is philosophically opposed to a Judge’s making decisions about other people’s children, rather than the parties’ working together to reach solutions that work best for their unique family. Litigation should be used as a last resort. It is more expensive, and more likely to harm the parties’ post-divorce relationship - the importance of which should not be underestimated where children are involved, and, more importantly, litigation can have a very serious impact on the children.. However, James realizes that not all cases can be resolved through settlement for a variety of reasons, including personality differences, mental illness, and issues such as domestic abuse. James has an extensive litigation background which enables him to provide a full-range of services to his client both in the courtroom and at the negotiating table. James has specialized experience in complex divorce litigation. He has been successful at the trial level in child custody and financial cases, and two of those rulings have been affirmed on appeal.. James has recently earned Avvo’s Clients’ Choice Award due to the large number of satisfied clients he has assisted, and he has been named to the National Advocates Top 40 Under 40 and Top 100 attorneys, and the American Institute of Family Law’s 10 Best Attorneys

Candidly, I went to law school because I didn't know what else to do after college and my best friend said he'd go with me. While in law school, I worked at several law firms, including at a medical malpractice law firm and a bankruptcy/real estate law firm. I soon realized that I had made a big mistake. Thinking the fun in my life was going to be over once I graduated and passed the bar exam, I decided I needed to do something that I had always wanted to do but never did - while I still had a life... That something was be in a band and play shows. So, in my last semester of law school, I formed a band with some buddies, recorded a couple of songs, and convinced my best friend to book us some shows. It was a fulfilling endeavor to say the least, and it was what finally led me to the realization that I could work in the music business and not be miserable for the rest of my life!. I ended up finding a job at a reputable independent music publishing company right out of law school, where I eventually became General Counsel / VP of Business Affairs and had the opportunity to help manage the catalogs of some of the most successful songwriters of all-time, including some of my musical heroes. In 2016, I hung up my shingle as Shackelford Legal and have had the good fortune of representing some pretty amazing music creators and music companies. Needless to say, I'm grateful that I found something to do as an attorney that excites me.
