I became a criminal defense attorney to defend people’s constitutional rights. My father was an attorney in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. I admired his passion for helping others. His service as an advocate for people facing prosecution from a powerful government inspired me to become a defense attorney.. I’m fluent in Spanish. This is mainly due to the extensive time I spent living and working in Mexico. During that time, I was actively involved in the community. That helped me better understand culture and language.. I started my legal career as a public defender. During that time, I handled hundreds of cases per year. The charges ranged from misdemeanors to violent felonies. Defending the most vulnerable among us further impressed upon me just how important it is for everyone to receive zealous representation. Despite time and budget constraints, I did everything I could as a public defender to advocate for my clients. As a private attorney now, I have an even greater opportunity to maximize the potential for a good outcome in my clients’ cases.

In 2009, I invented the concept of a mock trial using "Clarence Darrow Award" recipients (given annually each year by the Oklahoma Criminal Lawyers association to the outstanding criminal jury trial lawyer in Oklahoma) in cooperation with the Oklahoma Bar Association. I am a frequent lecturer at area colleges and universities in the area of criminal law and justice. I have been AV Preeminent rated by Martindale Hubbell for 26 years and have never had less than an AV Preeminent rating. I was named a Super Lawyer in 2008 in the area of criminal defense. Hayley Potts was born in Yeovil, a small town in southwest England. Before moving to the United States, Hayley graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University Law School with honors in 2010. While in England, Hayley worked with both barristers who worked in the criminal sector and with solicitors in drafting commercial leases, wills and land registration. In September, 2010, Hayley moved to Oklahoma City as part of a pro bono exchange program called Amicus, where English law graduates assist in American capital defense teams. Hayley was placed in the Oklahoma County Public Defenders Office where she worked as an investigator, assisting attorneys on numerous death penalty cases. In August 2011, Hayley began attending Oklahoma City University School of Law to cross-qualify her as an attorney in Oklahoma and has received the Cali Excellence for the Future Award for Legal Profession. She graduated from an expedited course schedule which essentially converted her U.K. legal license to an American bar license, enabling her to practice in both countries. Her fast-track legal education enabled her to take the full courses required for her Juris Doctor in only two years, rather than the required three years of study, which she received in May 2013. As a Attorney Hayley has assisted with both criminal and civil litigations, including high profiled criminal trials. Hayley opened up her own practice, The Potts Law Office, PLLC in order to continuing practicing American law, which is a general law practice with emphasis on criminal defense and family law. Hayley is also an accomplished Netball athlete, and when she has spare time, she likes to spend it working out, playing sports, and keeping active. She visits her mother, father and brother in England as often as possible.

GENERAL: I celebrated my 50th year as an Oklahoma attorney in 2012. I focused on insurance defense for the first half of my practice before switching my practice to the plaintiffs’ side, so I have seen insurance law from both sides. Most of my practice comes from referrals from my fellow attorneys, mainly on tougher cases involving insurance coverage and personal injury litigation. TEACHING: I have served Oklahoma attorneys and legal assistants as an adjunct professor since 1986. I have taught Insurance Law and Conflicts of Law at the University of Oklahoma College of Law since 1994. I also taught Insurance Law and Advanced Torts at Oklahoma City University School of Law from 1993-2010, and Insurance Law in the Legal Assistant Program at the University of Oklahoma College of Law from 1986-1992. In addition to O.U. law classes, I present continuing legal education (CLE) courses for the Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma Association for Justice, and various other legal and bar groups on subjects related to uninsured/underinsured motorist law, torts and insurance law, and professional responsibility.COURT ADMISSIONS and PROFESSIONAL PUBLICATIONS, PAPAERS, AND LECTURES: please visit the Travis Law Office website for full CV.If you have a case with which you need help, or just a question on the law, let me put my experience to work for you. First and foremost, I am a trial attorney. I practice in many areas of law in state, federal and municipal court. I know what is necessary to build a case and to present it to a judge or jury so that you win. Being a trial attorney is not a skill that all lawyers have. A good trial attorney is a good story teller who uses their knowledge of the evidence and the law to convey the story of your case to the judge and the jury so you win. Regardless of the area of law you need assistance in, when I accept you as a client I prepare your case from day one as if it is going to be tried to a judge or jury. Preparing a case in this mindset ensures that throughout the process of developing your case, no stone goes unturned and we examine every possible avenue of recovery. This approach also lets our opposing counsel know that we aren't making frivilous claims looking for nuisance value settlements. If we file a claim on your behalf its because I believe in it enough to invest my own time and money to help you.. I think the most important thing that every client and attorney need is a trust relationship. Clients rely on the attorney in times of high conflict and turmoil. You must pick an attorney whom you absolutely trust to not just tell you what you want to hear but also what you need to hear. A good attorney listens to thier clients and knows what the goal is from the start of a claim. Further as litigation progresses, a good attorney is able to watch for the signs of impending victory or defeat to steer the case back on path and onto the right path to vistory.. I believe our judicial system is the best in the world. I believe in the power of the jury system and the integrity of our courts. This doesn't mean that I believe the system is perfect as there is always room for improvement. However, I do believe our system is set up to be just and fair to all parties. Civil rights and protecting the rights of the most vuneralble people in our society is a passion of mine. I believe in fighting causes because its the right thing to do regardless of money. To change the world we all have to be wiling to step out onto the limbs of life and take a leap of faith.. I promise that if you choose me and Bussett Legal Group as the firm you want to take a leap of faith with, we will be by your side fighting everyday from the first day to get you what you deserve out of your lawsuit.
Fighting for YOU !

Derek K. Burch is a firmly rooted Oklahoman, but his reputation as a trial lawyer has taken him to courts across the country. Oftentimes, his own cases take him to other jurisdictions, but frequently he is called upon by lawyers elsewhere to assist them in their own local cases.. After receiving his J.D. from the Oklahoma City University School of Law in December, 1988, Burch began his legal career working for two law firms that handled insurance defense and commercial work, but it wasn’t the kind of law that he wanted to practice. Noted Oklahoma City plaintiff’s attorney Ed Abel gave Burch the chance to join his firm and handle personal-injury cases and Burch found what he was looking for. Burch’s old law-school friend, Kelly A. George, then also joined the Abel firm and they worked together there for several years before deciding to create their own firm, launching Burch & George in 1997.
DeeAnn L. Germany joined the firm of Burch & George in 1998 immediately after receiving her J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and has spent her entire legal career with this firm. In 2011, she became a partner and the firm changed its name to Burch, George & Germany.. Her practice has maintained its same essential focus over the years: solely plaintiff’s work, representing individuals in cases involving medical-device and products liability, motor-vehicle accidents, catastrophic injury, medical malpractice, and breaches of contracts.. In 2007, Germany recorded a $1,025,000 verdict against an orthopedic medical-device manufacturer after a femoral stem broke in a hip replacement for her client.. Early in her career, Germany and future law partner Derek K. Burchtried a slip-and-fall case that resulted in a verdict of more than $1 million for a young man who was severely and permanently injured.. She also recently negotiated a just settlement on behalf of the family of a three-year-old girl who was killed in an accident with a tractor-trailer that jackknifed when its driver was going too fast on a two-lane country road.. In representing injured people and their families, Germany finds that compassion is often in short supply with defendant companies.
