Born and raised in the greater Seattle area, I am a graduate of Kent-Meridian High School (co-valedictorian) and a graduate of the University of Washington Honors Program, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with Distinction.  My honors thesis foscused on self-directed breast cancer research through the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Reseach Center.  I then traveled back east to attend Boston University School of Law, where I graduated with Honors in the Concentration of Litigation and Dispute Resolution.  I also externed for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston for the Chief of the Financial Litigation Division.. I relocated back to my hometown of Kent, WA after over a decade of practice with large firms in New York City and Philadelphia.  During my free time, I enjoy gardening, movies, hiking, skiing, and anything out on the beautiful waters of our Pacific Northwest.  I am a member of the bars of the State of Washington, the State of New York, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

My practice is currently 100% family law. My experience includes probate, civil rights, bankruptcy, consumer law and civil litigation but now I concentrate on family law only. The parties involved have often had difficulty with effective communication and I view it as part of my job to facilitate and even strengthen communications as the parties work towards a resolution. I believe much more is accomplished through civility than bullying.. For me, life is about the relationships we have with one another. The relationships we have with our family members, even after a separation or divorce, will persist for years or even decades. The relationships we have with our children need to be protected and cherished.. The same is true for me in my approach to practicing law. I make my relationships with clients a priority. In order to be an effective advocate, it is critical that we develop a trusting and honest connection. I also value my relationships with opposing counsel and other members of the bar. I have found that thoughtful analysis, combined with respectful communications with the other side can often resolve even the most difficult situations.

Mr. Allen was born and raised in the Seattle area.  He attended Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle where he played on the varsity Baseball and Football teams.  He earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Santa Clara University in 1988, and earned his Juris Doctor Degree from Seattle University School of Law in 1992.  He was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1992.. Beginning in 1991, he served as a legal intern for the City of Kent, prosecuting criminal cases.  He had already tried fifteen jury trials bythe time he sat for the Bar Examination.  After passing the Washington State Bar Exam, he was hired as an Assistant City Attorney, and was promoted to the position of Chief Prosecutor in 1994.  In that position, he was responsible for prosecuting all criminal cases initiated by the City of Kent.  He also represented the City of Kent Police Department in several capacities, including civil asset forfeiture proceedings, and various legal advisements. He also represented the South King County Narcotics Task Force, advising them with respect to legal issues surrounding drug investigations, search warrants, and evidence gathering..
