I was born and raised in Chattanooga and went to Baylor for high school. I went on to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where I received an undergraduate degree in Business Management with a major in Finance. Straight out of undergrad, I went across the street to the University of Tennessee School of Law. I graduated with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (a fancy name for “law degree”) in 2004. I moved right back to Chattanooga and have been practicing law here for the past 16 years. For the past 12 years, I have practiced family law (divorce, alimony, child support, custody, etc.) almost exclusively. I also received a designation as a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst which allows me the best understanding of the financial concepts that are specific to many divorce cases.. I believe that most clients are looking for resolutions to their problems while, at the same time, minimizing the stress to themselves and their families and not breaking the bank but yet, getting what they deserve. My strategy to meet these goals for my clients involves education of the client about how their goals meet with what the law will allow, educating myself about your assets, debts and family background to understand how best to use the different facts and information and then finally, smart and strategic negotiating where you are involved in the negotiation process.. My staff and I will help you understand how the facts of your case blend with the laws that apply to your case. My clients are then able to participate more, understand what the timeline and expectations are in their case and ultimately, help themselves and their case.
Practice Focused on Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Divorce.Litigation when necessary.. Mediation and collaborative practice put you – the client – in the driver’s seat of the divorce process. You don’t have to give up control; you can be an active participant in creating a divorce settlement that meets the needs and concerns of you and your divorcing spouse. You can put the needs of your children first; you can reduce or even eliminate their exposure to conflict. You don’t have to spend all of your savings on a divorce. And you can keep your family’s matters private and out of the public court records.. In a small percentage of divorce cases, litigation is necessary. If, after an initial consultation, we believe that litigation is warranted in your situation, we will let you know. But, more often than not, we will recommend mediation or collaborative.

I started my own practice in 2006 in order to offer to all people the kind of sophisticated legal services offered by large firms. My concern is to listen to and get to know my clients so that I am able to achieve the goals that truly serve their needs, rather than carrying out a "cut and paste" plan for them.
I am building a solid reputation among judges and attorneys in the local community for my legal ability and commitment to ethical representation. From the start of your case through its final resolution, I will take the time to understand your unique needs and objectives.. I am focused on developing solutions that suit your families’ immediate and future needs. I pride myself on the long-term relationships I’m building with both our clients and members of the legal community. San Antonio Divorce Attorney Ashley Patton Butler
