It can affect your job, licensed professionals, and if you’re not a US citizen, your ability to remain in the country. I will review your charges with you so that you understand them. I will explain what the state’s attorney needs to prove and what you should expect throughout the trial process. As a partner at Downs Collins, Jason handles civil litigation, criminal defense, and legal matters that involve an overlap in both civil and criminal proceedings. Jason honed his litigation skills at what is often recognized as the leading training ground for trial attorneys in the United States. He gained nearly a decade of experience working with the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS), serving as lead counsel on 26 felony jury trials against federal prosecutors. In that time, Jason maintained an astounding success rate in jury trials that was 282% higher than the average in the Superior Court. Jason has also successfully resolved cases without the necessity of a trial, including convincing federal prosecutors not to indict or subpoena the Chief Financial Officer of a company that was being investigated for violations of foreign importation statutes. In a different case, Jason persuaded federal prosecutors to dismiss a 17 count indictment. In yet another case, Jason successfully litigated an 8 level variance from the Federal Sentencing Guidelines in a case involving bribery of a public official. Jason has also successfully represented an NFL player in a contract dispute governed by the NFL Players Association. No stranger to high-profile litigation, Jason was a part of the litigation team that investigated and settled the Freddie Gray civil matter for $6.4 million.

If you are arrested, don't talk to the police.  Tell them to call your lawyer.  Tell them to call Stephen Patrick Beatty.

Hello and thank you for checking out my Avvo Profile:. I have been practicing law for more than 30 years. My father was a lawyer and my son is a lawyer. To say that the law is a part of me is an understatement. Whether in Family Law, DUI, serious traffic matters, drug cases or criminal situations in general, I have mostly represented good people during difficult times. I choose not to represent what some people, professional or otherwise, refer to as "scum bags." I am not interested in the rights of the guy who beats up and rapes someone's grandmother, sorry.. I truly enjoy helping people turn their lives around for the better. Notwithstanding my "scum bag" comment, I am non-judgmental when it comes to my clients and not too proud to refer clients to other attorneys when I may lack the experience in an area of law that I do not regulary handle.. Although the "good ole boy" system that my father navigated through in the 1960's - 1980's is all but gone, it still pays to know as many people in various positions as posible. Although anyone can have an occasional bad day, I am pretty sure that I am well-liked and respected as a person and as a lawyer and this helps immensely in the art of advocacy.. When it comes to separation, divorce and child custody cases ---- "Been there and done that, and some". Trust me, when I say, "I know how you feel" -- I mean it. I can help on many levels. No two cases are alike no matter how similar. Rumor has it that too many lawyers treat many emotionally charged cases like they are all the same. That is probably not what you need. I know how you feel.. One of my pet peeves: I do not like when people do not respond to phone calls or emails in a timley fashion. Lawyers unfortunately are notorious for not getting back to clients and it is one of the biggest client complaints. Because it is a pet peeve of mine I appreciate the importance of being available to my clients 24-7.
