He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1995, and his Juris Doctorate degree with honors in 2000 from the University of Tennessee College of Law. In 1998, Mr. Kurtz started working in a private practice with several criminal defense lawyers. By 2004, he had realized that he wanted to have more personal contact with his clients, and decided to start his own practice. In 2007, Attorney Kurtz moved his practice to a historic building on Gay Street in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. Though born in Connecticut, Alexa grew up in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. She knew from an early age she wanted to be a lawyer and, after earning bachelors degrees in both political science and history from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, she went on to law school. Alexa graduated from Belmont University College of Law in 2017. While attending Belmont, Alexa was part of the university’s mock trial program, her team making it to the ABA’s Labor and Employment Mock Trial Competition semifinals in late 2016.
