Gerald J. Smith’s journey to becoming a lawyer was not a straight classroom-to-classroom path. Instead, a praying grandmother, born in Mosier Valley, Texas, provided Gerald with patriotic uncles who served in different branches of the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. Thus, college was postponed for a couple of years, for Gerald’s first desire would be to serve his country by enlisting into the United States Air Force.. Serving 20 years in the United States Air Force, Gerald J. Smith became a decorated airman who unselfishly fought all over the world for his country.. He devoted many years in the Pacific and European theaters performing operations in logistic units contributed to assorted military campaigns between 1980 and 2000, including Iranian Hostage Crisis, Desert Calm, Desert Storm, and the Bosnia conflict under NATO. He retired in 2000 as the International Military Student Officer at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. Today, he still believes in God, country, mission and family--before self.. Gerald J. Smith learned that fighting injustice was his “calling” and decided to pursueanother path that he is following today-- . practicing law--where he gets to fight injustice for all citizens--one client at a time.. “THIS IS MY CASE” – Letme prove it to you.

I grew up in Mesquite Texas.  My interest in law began at a young age from stories my father, who worked as a teacher in the Texas prisons, would tell me.  I remember reading through the Texas Penal Code when I was 12 years old and memorizing penalty ranges for various crimes.  I also was very interested in cars from an early age and began working on them in my teens.   I attended Texas A & M and the University of Texas at Arlington.  During college I worked various jobs including the assembly line at General Motors in Arlington, a runner for a lawfirm and as a auto mechanic.  The law and cars have always been a hobby and more for me.  After graduating from The University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1991 I immediately began taking criminal cases as a defense lawyer.  Over the years I have dealt with literally thousands of cases from shoplifting to murder.  It is always a challenge to analyze every case in detail and figure out how to attain the best possible result for the client given the circumstances and facts of the case.  Since 1991 I have also practiced personal injury, family and bankruptcy law.  As with any type of case, careful analysis of the facts of these cases as it applies to the law is paramount in attaining the best result for the client.

Firm: The Law Offices of Gill & Brissette (Not a Partnership)

D. Miles Brissette is a board certified criminal trial attorney based in Fort Worth, Texas.   He became a principle in the Law Offices of Gill & Brissette in 2015, after nearly two decades in the Tarrant County, Texas Criminal District Attorney’s Office. He is Board Certfied in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.. Miles has investigated and litigated offenses ranging from simple thefts and DWIs to death penalty cases.  He was a prosecutor in the high profile case against Chante Mallard, a Fort Worth woman convicted in 2003 of striking a man with her car, driving home with him lodged in her windshield and leaving him to die.  More recently, Miles was chosen as one of a multi-jurisdictional team of special prosecutors in the 2014 death penalty case against former Kaufman County Justice of the Peace Eric Williams for the assassinations of Kaufman County Criminal District Attorney Mike McLelland, McLelland’s wife and his First Assistant Mark Hasse.. As Chief Prosecutor of the Tarrant County Forensic and Technical Services Unit, Miles oversaw investigation and prosecution of arson and explosives cases, as well as the office’s Regional Forensic Video Lab and the Electronic Case Management System, which was the backbone for the criminal justice system in Tarrant County.  Fire dynamics became a passion for Miles as a prosecutor. His understanding of fire science earned him an international reputation for successfully pursuing complex arson cases during a period of time where many questioned the field of fire science.  In 2012, A Texas Advisory Council on Arson (ATAC) named him the Texas Arson Prosecutor of the Year. Miles currently serves on the board of directors for ATAC and the Texas Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators.. Miles has developed a widely recognized expertise using technology to dissect the most complex litigation and discovery intensive cases.  His work on the national level to establish standards for law enforcement in-car and interrogation room video continues today. He also is a member of the Texas Supreme Court’s Judicial Committee on Information Technology (JCIT). Miles and retired State District Judge Robert Gill recently co-founded 3rd Chair Digital Forensics LLC. The firm was established to provide businesses and private attorneys access to forensic processing, review and analysis of digital multimedia evidence at a level previously available only to government attorneys.. Miles has a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Texas Christian University. He received his law degree from Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.

I focus on vigorously defending people accused of misdemeanor and felony offenses.  I served as a Tarrant County Prosecutor prior to opening my own criminal defense practice in 2000.  I understand the stress and anxiety my clients are feeling and believe it is my purpose as a criminal attorney to work hard and diligently to protect my clients rights and future.. As a Christian and a Criminal Defense Attorney it is not uncommon for people to ask, "how are those compatible? Don't you just get people off?" I don't condone sin or bad behavior, but I'm also not free from it. There are several reasons I have such an incredible passion for my work. First, we live in a country that requires the government to prove you are guilty beyond all reasonable doubt before you are convicted of a crime. Until you are put in a position to defend your name and your future those words won’t have much meaning. But to me, and the people who trust me to protect them, it means that a good defense with the protections and rights of the Constitution is the only thing standing between government and the result the government wants. We don't live in a country where someone says you committed a crime, and now you have to prove your innocence. Life is hard enough without having a criminal record follow you around. I cannot promise a dismissal, but I can promise I will work as hard as possible to put you in a position to protect your future. Seeing a young person get a second chance after a mistake and capitalize on that second chance is well worth fighting for. Now, forty five years old, I have spent the majority of my life in the Metroplex. I grew up in North Richland Hills and graduated from Richland High School in 1986. I attended Abilene Christian University for two years and then transferred to Baylor University were I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1991. Growing up I attended North Richland Hills Baptist Church in North Richland Hills. Now my family and I attend Christ Chapel in Arlington. I am happily married and have two children. All three are incredible gifts from God. We spend our time as a family between our home in Arlington and a small ranch in Graham, Texas. We enjoy golfing, fishing, hunting and traveling.
