Firm: Hermanowski Law

My name is Alexander Hermanowski, and I’m a criminal defense, estate planning, and personal injury attorney.  Before becoming an attorney I was a financial advisor and planner helping people plan their financial future.  It is there where my passion to help people grew.  As a financial advisor and planner during the financial crisis, I saw how people’s lives could change quickly.  It is there that I decided I could better help people as an attorney.. After deciding to pursue a career helping people, as an attorney, I left my job and attended law school in Michigan.  There I was very active in mock trial and moot court.  I earned the high grade and a Certificate of Merit in Advanced Writing, which many people consider the most difficult course in law school.  I also volunteered for a local attorney and practiced law as a student attorney with the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s office under the supervision of an Assistant Public Defender.. I helped defend people charged with felonies while volunteering for the Public Defender’s office.  This was a great experience as I was able to gain courtroom experience and learn how to navigate the courtroom before graduating from law school.  This is where I recognized the need for attorneys to help criminal defendants.. After law school, I took the New York, New Jersey, and Michigan Bar Examinations.  I passed all three and decided to stay in Michigan where I was hired as a Staff Attorney at the University of Michigan – Student Legal Services.. Working for Student Legal Services allows me to help currently enrolled student at the University of Michigan.  Often times, students are away from home from the first time and learning to navigate life.  They sometimes make poor decisions which leads to interaction with the police.  As an attorney who deals with students I pay extra attention into helping defend them and get another chance by avoiding a public record or convictions.. Helping students is one of my passions and I am very proud to help young people regain control of their lives.. Seeing there is a need for quality criminal defense outside of the university, I also take on private cases for individuals that are not enrolled as students of the University of Michigan.  My private practice is called Hermanowski Law.  I am able to help others with legal issues on a private basis outside of the university as long as they are not currently enrolled students at UM and the matter is not against the University of Michigan.. I look forward to helping you as a staff attorney through UM- Student Legal Services or on a private basis at Hermanowski Law, the goal being to provide you the best representation I could and making sure you understand your options before you make them.

Every day I am in court fighting for someone just like you.. I am a real criminal defense attorney. I have tried cases to juries from East Lansing to Downriver and from Pontiac to Jackson.Based in Ann Arbor, I have represented people on felonies and misdemeanors in 13 circuit courts and 39 district courts. Many criminal defense attorneys advertise their past as prosecutors. The message from former prosecutors is they know the system well because they were a part of the system.. I advertise in the opposite way – I have never been a prosecutor. From the start I have been on your side and never a part of the system that is now against you.. I am from Ann Arbor, graduating from Pioneer High School and Eastern Michigan University. I attended law school at Michigan State University. After graduation I returned home and established ArborYpsi Law to serve the people in my community.
