Alex Frix has been practicing law as a public defender since 2006. He is currently the Director of the San Juan County Public Defender's Office, located in Friday Harbor, the county seat in the beautiful San Juan Islands of Washington State.. He has represented over a thousand clients in jury trials, motion hearings, pretrial hearings, and post-sentencing hearings. He only represents indigent people who qualify to have a public defender defend their constitutional rights in court.. In 2009, Alex worked with local judges, prosecutors, social workers, and the Washington State Department of Veterans affairs to create the first Veterans Court in the Pacific Northwest.. Alex was born into a military family and went to the University of Washington where he studied marketing and entrepreneurship. He later went to the University of Oregon Law School, where he was President of the local chapter of the American Constitution Society and a charter member of the Oregon Innocence Project.  While still in law school, he worked for the Lane County District Attorney's Office in Eugene, Oregon as a law clerk, where he prosecuted cases including DUI and drug possession.. Gordon Allen Byars was born in Las Vegas but moved to Huntingdon, a small town in West Tennessee, when he was in seventh grade and has remained in Tennessee ever since. Mr. Byars earned his Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville Tennessee.. Mr. Byars earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Lincoln Memorial University. While in law school Mr. Byars served as a law clerk for the Tennessee Attorney General and Reporter in Nashville and was selected as a research assistant by the faculty at Lincoln Memorial University. Mr. Byars received the General Oliver O. Howard Pro Bono Award for rendering nearly 200 hours of meaningful pro bono service to those in need while he attended law school..
