Within a year of graduating law school, Evan found himself as the lead attorney in multiple class x felony matters. His early successes as a criminal defense attorney earned him high-profile cases such as predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, child pornography, and multiple armed robberies. Many of his cases consist of domestic battery, DUI and other such misdemeanor offenses, but he has proven his ability to argue and negotiate on behalf of some of the most egregious offenders in Northern Illinois. I am a solo attorney and built a law office with areas of practice in Criminal Defense, DUI/traffic, Civil Litigation, and Appeals.  I handle both felony and misdemeanor as well as juvenile court cases.  As a former special public defender for McHenry County I was court appointed to handle felony, misdemeanor and abuse/neglect cases.. Prior to starting my own practice I worked at the McHenry County Public Defender's office were I gained experience handling criminal defense cases.. I attended the DePaul College of Law in Chicago. Before going to law school I worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 4 years were I learned about the NDA and research and development process.. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in genetics from Iowa State University in 1995.

I enjoy traveling, within the United States and abroad, especially to America's National Parks.  I often attend concerts and sporting events on the weekends.  My passion is sports.  I graduated from Marquette Law School with a concentration in sports law.  I am actively involved in many different sports leagues, including softball, volleyball, bowling, and golf.

I grew up near Petersburg, Illinois (about 20 miles from Springfield), attending Petersburg PORTA schools and graduating from PORTA High School.  I then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, where I graduated magna cum laude with a double major in communication and political science, and minors in music and pre-law.  After college, I went on to earn both my Juris Doctor (law degree) and a Master of Arts in Speech Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.. I began my legal career by serving six years as an Assistant State's Attorney in Sangamon County, Illinois, where I tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases to juries.  I started in the Traffic and Misdemeanor Division, prosecuting petty traffic tickets and misdemeanor criminal offenses.  I was then named chief DUI prosecutor, and was later promoted to the Felony Division and soon became one of the office’s two felony narcotics prosecutors.  Over the course of my time as an Assistant State’s Attorney, I was assigned cases ranging from petty speeding to first degree murder, covering the full breadth of the criminal and traffic codes.  I was responsible for the prosecution of nearly 700 felony cases, over 4000 DUI citations, and countless other crimes and offenses.. I was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. I attended Christ the King Grade School and Griffin High School (now Sacred Heart-Griffin). I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 with a degree in Finance and returned to Springfield to work as an investment officer for Marine Investment Management Company, a subsidiary of the original Marine Bank. There, I assisted in managing the investments of both private and public pension funds.. After working for four years, I decided to continue my education and enrolled at Southern Illinois University School of Law, where I graduated cum laude in 1992. I developed my writing skills during law school as a teaching assistant, member of the National Moot Court team, and member of editorial board of the law journal. During the summers, I interned with the law offices of Metnick, Barewin and Wise in Springfield and was hired as an associate by that firm after receiving my law degree. In 1997, I was invited to be co-founder of Gates, Wise & Schlosser, P.C., where I continue to be a committed, creative, and aggressive advocate for my clients.  With the addition of a fourth partner, the practice was renamed Gates Wise Schlosser & Goebel.. Although Gates Wise Schlosser & Goebel is a general practice law firm, I specialize in representing plaintiffs in personal injury claims and defendants charged with crimes in state or federal court. In each of these areas of practice, I take pride in representing individuals against entities with virtually unlimited resources. My wife, Tricia, and I have been married for sixteen years, and we are the proud parents of two boys.

For the majority of the 1980’s he served in Europe, where he interrogated the highest-caliber East Bloc defectors in an effort to collect defense-related intelligence information on the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.. After initial service as an enlisted soldier, and having been selected for promotion to the rank of Sergeant First Class, Mark became an officer, graduating first in his class from officer candidate school.  His first assignment was to Alaska, where the mission of his unit included arctic warfare and the defense of the Alaskan pipeline.  After a subsequent tour as a drill instructor at the same officer candidate school from where he acquired his officer appointment, Mark embarked on a lengthy and rigorous transition into the highly-specialized intelligence discipline of clandestine collection operations, which would take him on an array of classified assignments within the United States and overseas.  He is one of the few and select graduates of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Field Tradecraft Course, conducted at a secret facility referred to as “the farm.”  He earned national recognition for his contributions to the Global War on Terrorism.. During the course of his military career, Mark earned an Associate’s Degree, a Bachelor’s Degree, and a Master of Science Degree in International Relations.   He is a two-time graduate of the Defense Language Institute, and earned an array of military awards and decorations, to include the Legion of Merit and the Parachutist Badge.. Upon retirement from the military, Mark enrolled in law school at the Southern Illinois University School of Law.  He graduated a full semester ahead of his peers, in the top-third of his class, and was named to the Dean’s List.  He learned practical criminal law and procedure under the tutelage of some of the most respected criminal defense attorneys in the Central District of Illinois, and served as an intern with the Office of the State Appellate Defender and the Downstate Innocence Project.. Mark is married with two children.  He is a life member of the Military Officers Association of America, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of Disabled American Veterans.  He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.. In 2002, Brian Wright received his Associate in Paralegal Studies from Bryant and Stratton, and in 2007, his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University; this fueled his passion for the law.. Brian graduated from Northern University with his Juris Doctor degree; to this day giving him 10 years of experience in the legal field.  Brian is a member of the Federal Trial Bar, Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association, Kane County Bar Association and DeKalb County Bar Association..
