SPECIALIZING IN POST-CONVICTION RELIEF (PCR); APPEALS; MOTIONS FOR RECONSIDERATION OF THE SENTENCE IMPOSED; MEGAN'S LAW TIERING; & EXPUNGEMENTS. I practice throughout the State of New Jersey, and I have been involved with the field of criminal law for over forty-five years. I have proven my expertise, knowledge and commitment to defending those charged with crimes repeatedly, representing a large and significant number of client’s at trial through to a verdict; testing my trial skills; my knowledge of the law, court rules and trial procedure. I have handled many cases where the client comes to me after they are convicted, asking me to challenge their conviction or sentence by filing a post-conviction reflief (PCR) petition, an appeal, or a motion for the Court to reconsider the sentence that was imposed. I have also represented a large number of clients challenging the Megan's Law Tier the State wants to put them in, and I have represented numerous clients who are trying to get their criminal record expunged. I focus my defense efforts on clients charged with violating the criminal law of the State of New Jersey. Among the types of cases I have personally handled are cases involving Racketeering; Murder; Kidnapping; Medical Claims Fraud; Official Misconduct; Leader of Drug Trafficking Network; Robbery; Carjacking; Insurance Fraud; Rape and Sexual Assault; Perjury; and most of the other types of crimes charged in the criminal code. Before becoming a Criminal Defense Attorney, I was an Assistant Essex County (N.J.) Prosecutor for fifteen years; and, before that I was a police officer for ten years. During those times and now as a defense lawyer, I handled cases using every type of investigation used by the police, to include wiretapping, eavesdropping and other types of electronic surveillance; buy-bust and sting operations; undercover police investigations; and, more traditional investigation activities such as field investigation and witness interview. My decades of experience handling difficult cases and issues in the field of criminal law, provides me with a firm foundation to handle the emotionally charged atmosphere that permeates every type of criminal case. The emotions of all parties run hot, and I counter-balance the emotionally charged atmosphere of these cases by using my extensive trial and courtroom experience to protect my client's interests. Knowing what a Judge or a Prosecutor will think in regards to a particular argument allows me to vigorously advocate on behalf of my client. Whether I am negotiating with my adversary or advocating before the Judge, they know I am more than able to handle a trial on the merits; and, that I am not afraid to push the case to the appellate courts if that is what it takes to protect the interests of my client. Among the types of Criminal Defense cases that I have frequently represented clients on include: Adult Criminal Defense and Appeals; Juvenile Defense and Waiver; International and Interstate Extradition; DWI / DUI Defense; Traffic Violations; CDL Violations; Municipal Court Defense; Municipal Appeals; Motor Vehicle Commission Hearings; Arraignments and Detention Hearings; Probation Violations; Parole Violations; ISP Applications; Record Expungement; Post-Conviction Relief Applications; Domestic Violence Charges; and TRO / FRO  Restraining Orders. For over fifteen years, I've been fighting and winning criminal appeals in Wisconsin. Day in and day out, I come to my office to fight the system that has incarcerated my clients. And I do that work as a professional appellate attorney. That's almost all I do: fight for my clients as a criminal appeals attorney.. You should know: if you're appealing a conviction in Wisconsin, the State will be represented by an attorney who only handles criminal appeals. In other words, the State's going to have a professional appellate attoreny on its side. You should too.. You wouldn't hire a heart surgeon to do brain surgery. Don't hire a trial attorney to handle your appeal. Hire a professional appellate attorney and make it a fair fight against the State.

Firm: Susan Ciaravella Law

I began litigating criminal cases in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court during my second year of law school. My career has spanned over two decades and includes extensive trial experience as a criminal defense attorney (both private practice and public defense) in the District Courts of Orleans and Jefferson Parishes as well as Federal practice in the Eastern District of Louisiana and as a prosecutor in Orleans Parish. My vast experience as a criminal defense attorney ranges from representing individuals facing the death penalty to charges of simple possession and everything in between.. I spent eleven years of my legal practice in North Carolina practicing both family and criminal law. My practice in North Carolina focused on family law with a primary focus on complex child custody cases, separation and divorce, domestic violence, child support, and property division. My criminal practice included private and public defense in both State and Federal courts as well as criminal appellate defense.. Every case is unique. As such, the attorney and client should prepare a legal strategy to account for the unique facts and circumstances of each particular case.. In criminal cases, the State bears the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. An effective criminal defense attorney seeks to build a strong attorney-client relationship and to determine if investigative action should be taken shortly after arrest. Once/if formal charges are filed, an extensive case review and legal analysis should be conducted to determine what strategy is best given the client's criminal history (from a risk assessment perspective), the strength of law enforcement's investigation, and other necessary factors. Together the attorney and client determine which strategy is best to provide the possible defense and mitigate risks.. In family law matters, my experience has taught me that in most instances, the optimal goal in family law litigation is amicable settlement. No one wins in the division of assets and family. Negotiated settlement promotes accountability and allows parties to conserve valuable time, energy, and financial resources, bringing the closure necessary for parties to move forward with their lives in a new positive direction.  There are, however, situations where this is not possible and litigation is required to enforce valuable rights.  In those cases, I always present as a strong, unwavering, knowledgeable, strategic advocate seeking the best possible outcome based on the facts and the law.

Firm: Rees Law Firm

My name is Mark Rees.  I became a lawyer because I wanted to help people.  This can be difficult at times, but I always try to remember that people have disputes and they need someone to get them resolved.  Regardless of what the problem is, if I can get it resolved, the client is grateful.. My main focus is to handle personal injury/wrongful death accidents.  I truly feel that lawyers can make the community that we live in safer by requiring corporations and individuals that violate "standard safety rules" be responsible for the injuries that they cause because of such conduct.. My wife, Tamara, and I were married in 1993 and I have three children, Reagan, Kendal, and Zac.  We certainly have enjoyed watching them grow up and become responsible and compassionate to others.. My role as a lawyer is important to me; I understand that people come to me because of some problem that is disrupting their lives; I will always strive to remember each client and their circumstance, and try and get it resolved the best way possible that is beneficial to the client.
