After decades of practicing as a trial attorney, I came to the realization that mediation was a less expensive, less stressful, and quicker process for my clients than traditional litigation. So despite my love of the courtroom I transitioned my practice to conducting mediations full-time. Now, having conducted more than 3,000 mediations in numerous states across the country, I have become even more passionate about the mediation process. I would like to think that I am one of the hardest working mediators around, frequently conducting mediations on Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate those who wish to retain me as a mediator. Almost every night of my life is dedicated to reviewing and understanding the materials submitted for the next day's mediation. While I suspect that few people would willingly follow my work schedule, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to practice a profession that I love almost every single day of the year, and to have a wonderful family who have permitted me to devote so much time to my profession.

Karl Bayer is an ADR practitioner with almost thirty years of experience in litigation, mediation, and arbitration. A long-time successful trial lawyer, Karl recognized early the opportunities which ADR provided to the world of litigation and began to explore the potential of his mediation practice. As he had already earned the respect and trust of both the plaintiffs' and the defense bars, he filled a niche in Austin as a mediator who is requested by both sides of most disputes. He has spoken extensively about ADR and technical topics, both at CLE presentations and as an adjunct professor at The University of Texas School of Law.. Karl frequently serves as a pre-trial special master in federal district courts in Texas. While this service is often in the capacity of a Markman Master in patent infringement cases, he also serves as a general pre-trial master assisting judges and litigants as they wade through discovery and other pretrial procedural disputes.
