I am a bilingual (Spanish/English) attorney and community advocate. I have been fighting for justice for immigrants for over decade, volunteering with various organizations and serving on boards of immigrant rights non-profits. Through this activism, I decided to study the law. Now, I practice client-centered criminal immigration law with a focus on achieving and maintaining lawful immigration status.. About half of my practice is removal defense, defending those who are at risk of deportation and separation from their families if they are unable to prove they qualify for a form of immigration relief. As a client-center practitioner, I pride myself in taking the time to inform and educate my clients on the process, legal concepts, and to present options and recommend a best path forward.. Whether in removal proceedings or not, I dedicate myself to work with my clients and their families to find any possible avenue to help them remain in the United States including: immediate relative visas, family preference visas, asylum, withholding of removal, protection under the Convention Against Torture, cancellation of removal, relief under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), U visas for victims of crime, T visas for victims of trafficking and forced labor, deferred action, TPS, parole in place for families of military members, and employment visas. I also work with clients to bring their family into the U.S. from abroad.. I am in the process of growing my criminal defense practice. I have significant experience in traffic-based criminal matters. I also represent clients in DUI/OVI and other criminal matters. Working hand-in-hand with my clients, we are able to identify the best path forward, and I consistently achieve positive results for my clients.. Personal Biography:. I come from humble origins. I was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but I lived in Oklahoma and Missouri for most of my childhood. I hardly knew my biological father and grew up with a single mother during my formative years. I was adopted by my stepfather at the age of nine. I grew up without inherited wealth, connections to the educated and powerful, or an understanding about legal, political, and economic systems. I remember my family's struggle to advocate for ourselves in a world that too often exploits those who do not understand our legal system.. I went to college at Southeast Missouri State University on a full-tuition scholarship, where I graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Sciences in Political Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. During my time there, I studied for a semester in Madrid, Spain in the Hispanic Studies program at the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija. I was the first in my family to graduate from college.. After working ten years as a labor and community organizer and political director in New Mexico and Colorado, I decided to go to law school. I earned a Juris Doctorate and a Certificate in Constitutional Rights and Remedies from the University of Denver, where I studied as a Provost's Scholar. While there, I focused my studies on immigraiton law, criminal defense, and civil rights.. These experiences inform my work, and I pride myself in going above and beyond for my clients. I haven't forgotten my family roots or my experience later as a young man navigating higher education and employment alone with no guidance. Eventually I found my way as a labor and community organizer and political director. There, I learned how systems work and how to leverage them. As your attorney, I will use all of the tools (legal, community, and political) at my disposal to advocate for you if you trust me to do this important work for you and your family.
My experience includes not only a broad array of immigration issues, but also general civil litigation and supervising the provision of civil legal services, especially to immigrant victims of crime, violence, and persecution. I now primarily focus my practice on family and employment-based immigration, green cards, and naturalization. Our clients consist of Fortune 500 companies as well as individual families. Our Firm's motto is to be reliable, efficient, and responsive. We understand that the immigration process can be a daunting and stressful time and, therefore, take pride in responding to clients concerns quickly. I am fluent in English and Spanish. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. I look forward to working with you!
