A native Tucsonan, Carlo joined the Mercaldo Law Firm in the Spring of 2012 as a partner and shareholder. Prior to joining the Mercaldo Law Firm, Carlo spent three years in public practice in Washington, D.C. Carlo served as Deputy Chief of Staff for the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of the General Counsel from 2009 to 2011. With DHS, Carlo managed the legal review of issues concerning the department’s numerous sub-components and agencies on behalf of the department’s leadership. Carlo also represented DHS in two different White House initiatives focused on civil rights. In 2011, Carlo moved to the Department of Justice, where he served as Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in Alexandria, prosecuting bank fraud, drug trafficking, immigration violations, criminal conspiracies as well as many misdemeanor offenses. There, Carlo participated in numerous felony jury trials. Previously, Carlo worked for several years at a large firm in Phoenix where his practice focused on the representation of plaintiffs in matters involving medical malpractice and personal injury; as well as in breach of contract cases and real estate transactions. In his spare time, Carlo enjoys tennis, golf, bocce and exploring all that the gorgeous Tucson area has to offer.
