Piper Fortune grew up in Cotton Plant, Arkansas- where there were more wild animals than people, and the people there were farmers- certainly not lawyers. In fact, Piper had never met a lawyer until she sought one out in college, having decided she wanted to go to law school. Growing up in such a rural, delta community instilled in her a strong sense of community, advocacy for others, and most importantly, the value of endurance.. Piper went to college at Arkansas Tech University, where in three years, she graduated with a B.A. in Journalism with a focus in Public Relations. During her time there, she was extremely active having served on boards for her sorority, Delta Zeta, as well as the College Panhellenic Council, the Presidential Leadership Cabinet, and the Arkansas Tech Alumni Association. She was honored to make the Dean’s list, 2014 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and was even named a member of the inaugural class of Arkansas Tech Tradition Keepers.. Upon graduating college, Piper moved to Little Rock to begin her studies at Bowen School of Law, where she earned a Top Paper in Supreme Court Litigation. After graduating, Piper took a job with Hilburn and Harper, Ltd., and was honored to learn the tricks of family law practice from several wonderful mentors and quickly expanded her practice to all four corners of the state.. Piper is a passionate advocate who represents her clients with tenacity and endurance that will continue to serve their interests for years to come. My name is Rebecca, but those close to me call me Becca! I grew up in Camden, far from interstates, malls, or civilization, sustained on sports and church. Since the fourth grade, I’ve known I’d be a lawyer. It’s a calling, not simply a job to me. It’s been my plan so long I can’t even remember how it started!. My roots in my Methodist church are strong – surviving going away to college (Henderson), law school (Bowen), career and family. My time with Ozark Mission Project accidentally shaped the lawyer I was to become – my first summer as a chaperone I saw a baby – two years old, maybe – locked outside with the goats all day long. I reported it and the next day the goats, baby, fence, everything was gone. The results of that report are unknown; but my fate was cemented: giving a voice to the voice-less among us – children, criminal defendants, people with no financial access to justice.. Eight years I spent as a public defender, representing the least among us, and protecting our American values; and, now at Lion Legal Services where I provide, day in and day out, the access to civil and domestic justice Arkansans so desperately need. I’m a member of the Arkansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and am a bang-up trial attorney with extensive court experience. I thrive in front of juries (100% win- rate, thank you!). Here, I work mostly criminal defense and domestic cases here (surprisingly often, they go hand in hand) and love my work at Lion Legal Services because it allows me the freedom to communicate very well with clients, rely on my co-attorneys, and spend the time on each case that each of my cases deserves (unlike my time at the public defender’s office, where the caseload that I carried prevented me from spending as much time as I would’ve liked to have been able to spend on each of my cases).. I’m proud to say I’m living a romance novel: I met my husband my first year in college and we’ve never broken up! We finished college together, went to law school together, married and passed the bar together and now have two perfect little girls together (Evelynn and Vivian). We live in Little Rock and spend our days trying to maintain an exercise routine and our sanity. Since becoming an attorney in 2005, my life has been impacted by the family laws of this state. My marriage resulted in divorce, and my ex-husband and I share true joint custody of our daughter. I know, first-hand, the intricacies of these relationships and the effect that divorce can have on a family's emotional and financial well-being.. So, while my desire to be an attorney grew out of academic lessons and idealistic ideas, my reason for practicing law – family law – is much more basic: I help people get through the "murky details" so that they can get to the "living life" part.. After completing college at the University of Central Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in business administration, I studied law at the University of Arkansas. Except for a stint at the Arkansas Securities Department, where I litigated securities fraud issues, and a short but educational foray into banking as a commercial lender, I have practiced family law.
