Why I Became a Defense Attorney. Three reasons: To help people in trouble; to protect individual rights; and to defend the Constitution.. I grew up watching my mother help people when they most needed it and I know it made a deep impression on me. I learned so much from watching her. Most importantly, she taught me to “meet people where they are” and see what you could offer of yourself to help them. She was the best counselor and mediator you’d ever meet and I strive in my own career to be half as good as she was in her career. She is gone now but I know that I carry her spirit with me whenever I am actively engaged in helping someone in crisis.. I also grew up as a Navy junior and that, too, made a deep impression on me. My father was a distinguished Naval Officer who flew jets during the Vietnam War. He risked his life to defend our way of life and the Constitution. He knew that if there weren’t citizens who were willing to stand up and fight on behalf of all of us we could lose everything. I am proud to say that I have followed in my father’s footsteps in defending our rights and the Constitution; I have just done it in a different way.. Very early on in my career, I saw how easily all of our rights can be eroded if there aren’t lawyers out there fighting to protect the rights of all who are accused – the guilty and the innocent. If we don’t demand that the promises of the Constitution are delivered, we lose them. The burden to prove guilt is on the government not on the defendant. The Constitution demands that we view people accused of crime as innocent unless and until they are proven guilty. And guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. These are amazing concepts that separate our country and our laws from the rest of the world. We lose them if we don’t fight for them.. At the core, these are the reasons that I chose to become a defense attorney.

Kobie Flowers
Firm: Brown, Goldstein & Levy, LLP
1300 Eye Street NW , Washington , District of Columbia 20005
Practice Areas: Criminal Defense
Kobie is, first and foremost, a trial lawyer, with over 15 years of courtroom experience. He specializes in representing individuals and businesses in complex criminal and civil matters. His first-chair trial experience in building cases for the government as a federal prosecutor and in fighting the government’s efforts as an assistant federal public defender (AFPD) provides him with an uncommon insight into trial practice. In both roles, Kobie was trained in and maintained the highest standards of trial advocacy. He brings that tradition of excellence to the private practice of law.. As a member of the Attorney General’s Honors Program, Kobie was a civil rights prosecutor at the United States Department of Justice for over four years. There, he conducted complex grand jury investigations involving fraud, false statements, obstruction of justice, and perjury charges as aspects of enforcing federal criminal civil rights statutes. While at the Department, he specialized in the prosecution of police brutality cases. Kobie was one of the prosecutors who successfully tried the largest case against federal correctional officers in the history of the Civil Rights Division. For that effort, he earned the Civil Rights Division’s Special Commendation for Outstanding Service. Kobie never lost a case as a federal civil rights prosecutor.. After his tenure as a federal civil rights prosecutor, Kobie sought out the challenge of defending against federal prosecutions as an AFPD in Baltimore. As an AFPD, Kobie successfully represented clients charged with federal felonies, including fraud, false statements, obstruction of justice, bribery, tax, and perjury charges. Kobie won two-thirds of the cases he defended at trial. When trial was not in the client’s best interest, Kobie navigated through the demands of the government and obtained numerous favorable, pre-verdict outcomes for his clients, including dismissals of cases.. Following his government service, Kobie entered private practice and focused on complex commercial litigation. As a lawyer at a large international law firm, he assisted corporate clients with investigations involving the False Claims Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and federal securities laws. He also handled mass toxic tort litigation at a leading plaintiff’s firm.. Kobie has litigated cases in federal and state courts throughout the United States and internationally in the military commissions in Guantanamo Bay as a criminal defense lawyer.. Kobie has taught the art and science of trial lawyering all over the United States, including at the National Criminal Defense College, the Bronx Defenders, and Harvard Law School.

John Flannery II
Firm: LAWYER FLANNERY
38469 Triticum Lane , Lovettsville , District of Columbia 20180
Practice Areas: Criminal Defense
John is listed in "Who's Who in America", and is a regular guest commentator in print and on tv and radio on law and politics including CNN, Fox News, what was the O'Reilly Factor, and Chris Matthews Hardball. John is a former federal prosecutor from New York who handled widely publicized federal criminal investigations and prosecutions that ran the gamut from securities fraud to a mob prison break, the bribery of Congressman Dan Flood by a rabbi, the federally funded summer feeding scandal in the South Bronx, and heroin-trafficking by major organized crime figures including "Matty" Madonna, who has been indicted since his release in an indictment in New Jersey.. In private practice at the mid-town Manhattan law firm of Poletti Friedin Prashker Feldman & Gartner (founded by FDR Jr.), John represented all the airlines in the Air Traffic Controllers Strike in 1981, and negotiated a settlement for the Airlines amounting to $28,869,.. While John maintained a general private practice in the mid-80's, he continued to handle complex civil matters as well, representing John Maguire, the founder of a wholly owned hi-tech subsidiary, Software AG, NA, as well as Al Neuharth, the founder of USA Today. John also had a busy criminal docket that included complex multi-defendant, multi-jurisdictional securities fraud prosecutions, the targets of alleged defense industries fraud, and those targeted in political corruption investigations. John served twice on Capitol Hill. On the Senate side as Special Counsel to the U. S. Senate Judiciary Committee (appointed by Chairman Strom Thurmond to investigate Quadaffi's efforts to subvert American foreign policy), and then as Special Counsel to the U.S. Senate Labor Committee (appointed by Chairman Orrin Hatch to investigate the confirmation hearings of former Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan). On the House side, John served again as Special Counsel, investigating the mob's influence in the Laborers International Union, also their influence on the Teamsters International Union, and he made a nationwide assessment of the "American Worker." His most challenging assignment on the Hill, however, was his work on the historic Impeachment proceedings of President William Jefferson Clinton (for the democratic minority). John was Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, representing Silicon Valley; he was responsible for forging bi-partisan legislative initiatives, serving as liaison with the minority leader, and lending his expertise in hi-tech policy making and legislation. After Congress, John returned to practice at a firm, since re-named, CAMPBELL FLANNERY, PC ( ). John's litigation practice was both civil and criminal, trial and appellate, federal and state.. John's criminal defense and appellate practice, at the federal and state level, focussed on white collar criminal defense including several significant chronic pain cases, most particularly, the Florida State appeal of Richard Paey, a chronic pain patient, unjustly sentenced to 25 years for receiving pain medication, featured on Sixty Minutes; in September 2007, after the Court of Appeals denied the appeal (read the dissent), John argued to the Governor for Richard's release from prison, and Governor Crist granted a full pardon; John also fought successfully to reverse the unfair conviction of Dr. William Nucklos in Ohio; John associated in these efforts with the Pain Relief Network, headed by its founder and President, Siobhan Reynolds; it is because of Richard and other pain cases, that John wrote his book, "Pain in America - and how our Government makes it worse!". No criminal case is "small" as each case means the difference between freedom and reputation.. John's civil practice includes complex fraud and contract litigation involving labor, land use, employment, contract, corporate entities (whether it's formation, or dissolution), buiness hi-tech, IP, Sarbanes Oxley, and a general civil practice, as well as government relations. Mr. Flannery holds undergraduate degrees in Physics (BS, Fordham) and Industrial Engineering (BS, Columbia), a law degree (J.D., Columbia), and a Masters Degree (Masters in Information Science, GW Graduate Business School).. Placing high value on integrity, quality and customer service, we strive to truly understand our clients' concerns and reach positive outcomes that help them achieve their goals. We concentrate our practice on handling legal issues in several areas, including family law, criminal defense, probate and others. SEASONED LITIGATOR ON YOUR SIDE Our firm's founding attorney, Joel W. Anders, has 39 years of experience as a trial lawyer. During this time, he has developed a detailed understanding of how the legal system operates, which enables him to effectively and efficiently guide cases through the legal process. Attorney Anders has the ability to quickly determine when a client can best be served by settlement negotiation, a generally more conservative and cost-effective method of dispute resolution. However, when a case demands a courtroom trial, such as a criminal case, our lawyer is prepared to draw on his extensive litigation experience to fight on behalf of our clients. Either way, our firm believes aggressive advocacy is key to giving clients the opportunity to make critical decisions on their own terms.
Jeffrey Clark
Firm: Law Office of Shayan Noor
45579 Shepard Drive , Sterling , District of Columbia 20164
Practice Areas: Criminal Defense
I am an experienced criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. Prior to joining the Law Offices of John Boneta, I worked as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the Loudoun County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. Before my time with the Commonwealth I worked with John Boneta in Falls Church, gaining a wealth of experience in both trial and negotiation on both sides of the criminal bar. I graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2016 for my Juris Doctorate and The College of William and Mary in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in American Studies. Prior to attending Wake Forest University School of Law for his Juris Doctorate, I worked as a legal assistant for Zoby, Broccoletti, & Normile, PC in Norfolk, VA. My work in Norfolk was directly under James Broccoletti, one of the pre-eminent criminal defense attorneys in the Commonwealth of Virginia, specializing in major felony cases.. While I was at Wake Forest, I was an active member of the executive board of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund, with a personal emphasis on researching and becoming involved in the laws governing dog fighting and dangerous dog laws on the state and federal levels. This was a passion project for me, as my family has been very involved in animal welfare and animal charity my whole life, and it has been a pleasure to continue contributing to similar organizations as often as possible. I have taken pride throughout my career in being a zealous advocate for all of my clients, and helping them navigate the often perilous world of the court system. Those who know me will attest to my professionalism and preparation, and if you find yourself in legal trouble you will find yourself in good hands with me at your side.
