James T. Hyun for the last 25 years has been  senior partner at Hyun Law Group focusing his practice on criminal defense and complex civil litigation.  Mr. Hyun is also currently a   Cook County Administrative Law Judge  since May of 2010 and is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University Law School where he teaches international trial advocacy.  He started his career as a prosecutor for the Cook County States Attorneys Office and worked his way up all the way to felony court level.   After leaving the prosecutors office, he formed law firm of Hyun Law Group where he specialized in criminal defense and complex civil litigation. Mr. Hyun has tried thousands of trial and many jury trials both civil and criminal cases to verdicts in both state and federal courts.  He was the first attorney in United States to try a case under US-Korea Extradition Treaty of 1999 in US Western District of Michigan under United States vs. Seuk Hee Lee. Mr. Hyun also was responsible for succesffully aruguing on behalf of the defendant, under Uniform Foreign Money Judgement Act where he successfully defended 2.5 million dollar claim.  Mr. Hyun attended University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana and DePaulUniversity, College of Law where he was on the Deans List each semester.   He has also received a certification from Harvard LawSchool in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution.  Mr. Hyun was a former president of the Korean American Bar Association and is a Chief Legal Counsel for Korean Daily News, Korean American Chamber of Commerce, Korean American Association of Chicago.  James also chaired human traffiking section at the  American Foreign Ministry Institute where he was recognized as premier chair.  In the year 2008, Mr. Hyun also was awarded the Outstand Citizenship Award by the Honorable Mayor Richard Daley for his dedication to unprecedented number of hours dedicated to  pro bono work in the Chicagoland area. In the year 2008 and 2012 he was recognized by the Republic Of Korea also for his dedication to pro bono work by President Lee and President Park.  In 2015, he received an outstanding citizenship award for his pro bono legal work from the Cook County States Attorneys Office.  Mr. Hyun also visits many presitious universities  China and Korea annually to teach advocacy in various schools in Asia. Since 2011, he has volunteered his service as a judge for the  Hong Kong William C Vis Arbitration Competition.    James has been selected as a Super Lawyer in Illinois in year 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 which is reserved for top 5% of the lawyers in the country.
