After leaving my position as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia over twenty-seven years ago, I focused my legal practice on defending nursing home providers in malpractice lawsuits here in the D.C. area and across the country. In doing so, I learned in great detail not only how those cases are prosecuted and defended, but also how plaintiff's counsel and providers evaluate them for settlement purposes. My extensive experience in defending nursing home cases proved to be one of my strongest assets once I began representing plaintiffs in those cases, as I now routinely do.. My goal in litigating any case is to evaluate it as quickly as possible in order to determine whether it can be resolved early on in a manner that makes sense for both sides. This approach promotes closure for all parties and reduces the often wasteful and unnecessary fees and costs involved in protracted litigation. If early resolution of a case is not possible, I welcome the opportunity to try it to verdict before a jury or arbitration panel. My most recent nursing home jury trial resulted in a satisfactory settlement for my client just prior to the closing arguments. My most recent nursing home arbitration resulted in an award totally in my client's favor after opposing counsel steadfastly refused to engage in meaningful settlement discussions.. Given my strong belief in the benefits of early dispute resolution, I have completed the arbitration and mediation training programs sponsored by the American Health Lawyer's Association ("AHLA"). I served as an arbitrator in a Florida nursing home dispute this past spring and look forward to doing so again this fall.. Before I went to law school, I worked as house painter, a laborer on gas pipelines and concrete crews, a carpenter, and a roughneck on an oil rig. I believe that that background, together with my educational and professional experience, has helped me to appreciate and relate to clients and jurors from all walks of life.. Picking the right lawyer to represent you in a significant lawsuit may be one of the most important decisions that you will ever have to make. For that reason, you should take the time to get to know your prospective counsel and to make sure that he or she is the best fit for you. In order to assist you in that process, I offer free legal consultations. Please do not hestitate to contact me at your convenience should you wish to discuss your case with me.

Of course we fight hard for you with the insurance companies and in the courts. But we are also very proud of all the help we give you before you are even at the point of talking about money with the other side. We help to make sure that your car gets fixed, that your doctors give you the best care, and that you get paid as soon as possible for time you have to miss from work. We also talk with the insurance company so you can focus on getting better instead of worrying about what to say to the person working for the insurance company.. We have plenty of actual courtroom experience and will aggressively pursue your case. At the same time, we are skilled negotiators. We often negotiate excellent settlements for our clients. But the decision to accept a settlement offer or go to trial is yours alone.. Mr. Solnik graduated Duke University with honors and received his law degree from an Ivy League law school (University of Pennsylvania). Before opening his own practice, Mr. Solnik practiced at three of the nation’s top law firms: Shaw Pittman (now Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman), Seyfarth Shaw, and Leventhal Senter & Lerman (now Lerman Senter PLLC) and received in depth training from top personal injury attorneys.. On the personal side, Bernard Solnik is married, with two children. He was born and raised in Long Island, NY. He is a family man and an avid musician. My practice of family law is distinguished by my unique understanding and compassion for my clients and the issues they face as they wade through the stressful and often unpredictable process of dissolving a marriage. Raised by divorced parents in two different households, I am keenly aware of and sensitive to both the emotional underpinnings as well as the logistical realities of separation, divorce and custody disputes. I listen to my clients, understands their perspectives and help them anticipate issues and identify both their short- and long-term goals. I work closely with my clients to help them develop practical, creative and cost-effective strategies for attaining those goals.. I have extensive experience handling all family law issues that arise, from negotiation and drafting of separation agreements, through litigating contested divorce and custody cases. I practice across Maryland and handle complex custody and access disputes, sophisticated property distribution and business valuation issues, alimony and child support matters, post-judgment modification and enforcement cases, domestic violence matters, adoptions, pre- and post-nuptial agreements and appellate advocacy.. I understand that no two cases are the same; there are no successful cookie-cutter approaches in life or in family law. I take my obligation seriously as both an attorney and a counselor at law, and take time to ensure my clients understand their options. I am at my best when guiding my clients through the daily issues of their cases, and when counseling clients as they make important decisions that will have a long-term impact on their and their children's lives. I have been recognized by Maryland Super Lawyers magazine as a Rising Star (2012-2021) and as a Super Lawyer (2022), by Best Lawyers in America (2016-present), by Washingtonian Magazine as a Top Divorce Lawyer (2020, 2021) and by Bethesda Magazine as a Top Divorce Attorney (2019, 2021). I was inducted into the Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (one of only 38 attorneys in the State of Maryland to be included) in 2020.. I believe that lawyers have an obligation to serve their community beyond the practice of law. I am an active member of the Bar Association of Montgomery County, and I'm routinely appointed to leadership positions. Currently, I serve on the Judicial Selections Committee, tasked with vetting and endorsing candidates for the Bench (I have previously served as Vice Chair and Chair); as well as co-chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. In the past, I have served as co-chair of the New Practitioner’s Section; co-chair of the Association’s annual Special Olympics project, the Inspiration Walk; co-chair of the Family Law Section; and co-chair of the Leadership Development Committee. I have been recognized for my service, receiving several awards from the Bar Association. I also serve the community by presenting educational programs regarding separation, divorce and custody around Montgomery County. I grew up in Frederick County; and in my spare time, I enjoy rooting for the Ravens, cooking and traveling, and spending time with my husband and sons.
