The mother of two daughters, one with autism, Ms. Ramos has firsthand experience with the struggles families face in getting education services. Recognizing the lack of help available for non–English-speaking families, she has focused on serving students from Latino and other underserved communities.. Ms. Ramos has worked with disability advocates from around the world. Originally from Puerto Rico, after finishing her master’s degree in diplomacy from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, she lived in China, Brazil, Peru, Italy, and France and traveled to more than 100 countries. She understands what it’s like to live in a new culture, and is committed to helping clients overcome language barriers to get the services they need.

I went to law school in the 1970s because I wanted to change the world. I was fortunate to be able to work in public interest law for 25 years, working in legal aid programs in Nebraska, West Virginia, Worcester and Fitchburg. I ended my public interest career at the Disability Law Center where I discovered a deep and abiding interest in special education and a love for the families of children with disabilities that I represented. I left DLC in 2002 to concentrate on the representation of children with disabilities. Over the years, my life has been enriched by the families that I have met. I work hard to repay what I have learned over the years to the community of parents and individuals with disabilities.

Torie Roig is an associate with Gillis Law, LLC. Ms. Roig earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Education from the University of Notre Dame. While working towards her graduate degree, Torie taught 4th grade in Sacramento, California. She graduated from Boston College Law School.. During law school, Ms. Roig participated in BC Law’s Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project and represented court involved youths regarding their educational matters. Ms. Roig also interned with Greater Boston Legal Services and the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights. Ms. Roig was selected as a Curtin Public Interest Scholar.. Ms. Roig brings her unique experience as a former educator in the elementary classroom to represent parents and their children regarding special education law issues. In her free time, Ms. Roig enjoys replicating her family’s Italian and Cuban cooking traditions and crafting new recipes. She also enjoys cheering on her alma mater’s sports teams as much as she can from afar.
