I'm a regular ol' Michigander. I grew up in Grand Rapids, and attended Kalamazoo College where I majored in Spanish and Religion. During my junior year I studied abroad in Caceres, Spain. Soon after graduation, I began working at Catholic Human Development Outreach in Grand Rapids, in the Immigration Assistance Program where I was first exposed to immigration law. That experience convinced me to attend law school, and while there I again studied abroad, but this time in Galway, Ireland learning about International Human Rights and Humanitarian law. I graduated and became an attorney in 2006, when I moved to Chicago to study tax law. I then worked in tax for several years, specializing in individual international taxation issues. In 2010, I felt the pull back home to Michigan and immigration law. I worked at St. Vincent Catholic Charities in Lansing, Michigan as a Staff Attorney for more than two years before becoming the Director of Immigration Legal Services for the Diocese of Grand Rapids in 2013. I left that post in 2022 to open LYIS, PLLC. I now have more than 14 years' experience in U.S. citizenship and immigration practice. I am a native English speaker, and fluent in Spanish.. I have two dogs, and I like to knit and research my geneaology.

Robert F. Mirque Jr. is an attorney practicing U.S. immigration law in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For over 28 years, Mr. Mirque has helped businesses, individuals, and families obtain legal status in the United States. The firm proudly calls itself a “value-driven” law office meaning that we want to make sure that the client gets the most out of every dollar spent. This is done in many ways during our representation but, it starts with rates that are very reasonable; payment plans available to our clients; acceptance of major credit cards; and an office is conveniently located downtown with ample free parking.. Mr. Mirque was admitted to practice law in 1992. Prior to seeing any clients, he clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan. From there, he clerked with the Hon. Horace W. Gilmore, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. After working for the court, Mr. Mirque joined a large law firm where he represented both individuals and businesses in immigration matters.. In 2000, Mr. Mirque left the firm to establish his own firm. Mirque Law was created to provide the immigration client with “a better legal experience”. In doing so, the firm adopted a “client centered” approach to handling cases. In a nutshell, our mission is based on the fact that without clients it doesn’t matter how much mahogany and marble is in the lobby and unless we truly focus on the client, we simply won’t be around for very long. Our office exists wholly for the benefit of the client and not the other way around. It is sad that there are some lawyers who believe that clients will continue come to them no matter how they are treated. For those lawyers, the client is simply a case number. We believe in something different – we believe that a client is why we exist.. Mirque Law focuses it practice in the following areas:. If you have an immigration matter and you wish to speak with me, call me at for a free Immigration Status Strategy Meeting where we will review your issues and outline a way to achieve your goal. Or, go to our website at for more information.. We work very hard to provide every client with a better legal experience.
