I am the Founder and Principal of Ledermanlaw, PC. My main areas of practice are appellate practice and legal writing and other litigation assistance to other lawyers and the general public. For the last 30 years, I have represented corporations, nonprofits, and individuals in Michigan and Federal Sixth Circuit appeals and trial court cases. I have also provided legal writing services to other lawyers on their cases. I provide the determined and effective written and oral advocacy that you need to win. I do it write.. In those 30 years, many law firms, attorneys, and clients have depended on me to produce high quality, effective work under tight deadlines or in unfavorable situations, and I have delivered. I have worked in most civil and criminal areas, including complex commercial, constitutional, criminal, employment, and intellectual property substantive law areas and difficult and uncertain procedural law areas.. I am married and the proud father of a daughter, who has graduated from Roeper School, and who has obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Michigan. She will begin another graduate degree program at Vanderbilt University this fall. I have been four bright dogs’ human companion, including our current dog, a 1-year old English Shepherd pup.. When not working, I enjoy Frisbee, hiking, history, politics, movies, pro football, and Frisbee golf. My favorite weekly news program is Fareed Zakaria GPS on CNN. My favorite movies (comedies) include Bananas, Fiddler on the Roof, The Producers, and The Blues Brothers. My favorite movies (dramas) include Judgement at Nuremburg, Life of Pi, Lincoln, Operation Thunderbolt, Saturday Night Fever, Saving Private Ryan, Schindler’s List, Sophie’s Choice, The Battle of Algiers, and The Ten Commandments. My favorite movies (westerns) include High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider, Rio Bravo, The Outlaw Josey Wales, and 3:10 to Yuma. My favorite movies (other) include E-T, Lion King I, and Lion King II. My favorite TV shows include Ken Burns’ Civil War series, the PBS Frontline shows, Desperate Housewives, LA Law, and Mad Men.

I am a former federal prosecutor with speicalities in appellate practice, government investigations, and commercial litigation. For 22 years I served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Western District of Michigan, and held leadership roles including First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Appellate Chief.. As First Assistant, I managed the day-to-day operations of the office, supervised the district’s Criminal, Civil, and Appellate divisions, and provided counsel to the United States Attorney on all legal and operational matters affecting the district and its 90-person team. I oversaw cases involving white collar crimes, including fraud and public corruption, as well as national security matters, cybercrimes, and violent crimes, among other matters.. As Appellate Chief, I oversaw the office’s appellate practice, drafted and reviewed hundreds of briefs, argued dozens of cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, including an en banc argument, and collaborated with the Appellate Section of the Department’s Criminal Division and the U.S. Solicitor General’s Office on matters before the U.S. Supreme Court. As a line assistant, I prosecuted violent crime cases and litigated a broad array of civil matters, including False Claims Act, environmental, tort, and regulatory compliance cases.. Before my government service, I practiced commercial litigation at Jenner & Block in Chicago and maintained an active pro bono practice, including criminal defense matters.
