Practice Areas: Immigration
I have been working in the field of immigration law since 1999. I work in ALL areas of immigration law and travel throughout the US to represent my clients. I first started practicing in the field of business immigration and then expanded my knowledge to include family immigration law, asylum, deportation, and naturalization. I have worked with universities, a professional football team, Olympians, and professional athletes. I am one of two attorneys in the state of ND to provide advice to ND criminal defense attorneys as to the immigration consequences of criminal charges and/or convictions. I love to figure out complex immigration issues. Call me to learn how I can help you.. As stated above, I work in all areas of immigration law. My clients never leave my office without an answer. I work with many different businesses assisting them with their employment needs, families who want to sponsor their loved ones, individuals who want to become citizens, and people who find themselves placed into deportation proceedings. I work with criminal clients in municipal, district and federal courts and file federal actions for clients who find their immigration cases unduly delayed. I love to travel, eat food from around the world and learn new customs.. I am a three-time graduate of the University of North Dakota graduating with bachelor’s degrees in Political Science, and International Studies. I have a Masters of Business (MBA) and a Juris Doctorate in Law. I have lived and worked in Antigua, Guatemala, Central America during its civil war and after the war ended, as well as studied in Bogota, Columbia, South America. I started my career in banking and finance working as a commercial and private lender. I then become Associate Director of International Programs for the University of North Dakota where I was introduced to immigration law. It was there that I discovered my passion for immigration law. My husband and I moved to Jacksonville, FL and while living there, I worked for one of the top immigration attorneys in northern Florida. My husband and I decided to return to North Dakota so I could attend law school. I opened Swanson Law Office in May 2010 and have loved every minute of it. I am an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Dakota School of Law and teach Immigration Law.
