Professionally, Trek has been practicing law as a litigator since graduating from the University of Texas School of Law with honors in 1994. Trek's career began at a reputable criminal defense boutique. Trek worked on a wide range of criminal matters ranging from capital murder to complex "white collar" fraud cases. Trek switched to the civil side of the docket in 1998 when he went to work for Clark, Thomas & Winters in its product liability section.
