Thereafter, he worked in a small boutique litigation firm that primarily handled civil and commercial litigation, and he co-authored two continuing legal education articles.. Before he became an attorney, Mr. Mendel practiced commercial and residential architecture. He also served as a full-time faculty member at the University of Houston’s central campus, where he taught construction related courses, and was voted teacher of the year by his students.. Mr. Mendel is a member of the State Bar of Texas and Houston Bar Association. He was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1987.. Education. Mr. Mendel graduated with high honors from the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin, and received recognition as a College Scholar. He received his Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude. During law school, Mr. Mendel served as the Executive Editor of the Law Journal, published an article entitled Negligent Infliction of Mental Distress Upon a Bystander in Texas, and received numerous awards and recognition for his academic and writing achievements.. Personal Interests. Steve and his family live in Houston, Texas. In his spare time, Steve enjoys swimming, cycling, running, and snow skiing. He is a five-time iron man.
